New brighter headlights

Just snag a HID kit off amazon or ebay. You can install it yourself or since you're in SJ, I'd be happy to help you do it.

 

I have this kit. It was very easy to install and has served me very well.

As someone with little auto mechanic skill, it's an extremely easy DIY... I just installed my HID bulbs a few months ago. There's plenty of threads here on PC to help you out if you do some research. Here's a video showing the process as well.

This is the bare minimum of installing the bulbs and making them work. There's other steps that will help you long-term -- installing a wiring harness to protect your electrical system, doing a headlight housing retrofit so you're not blinding other drivers, etc, but if all you want are brighter HID bulbs, you should be able to DIY in an hour or less.

 

Looking good! Later down the road you may end up doing a retro fit. Haha. That's what I did.

I have been using and purchased a LOT of HID kits for multiple different cars from ddmtuning.com and have been extremely happy with them.

I would suggest to readjust/ re-aim your lamps after installing HIDs.

And even more so,the driver side so as not to blind oncoming traffic

How much are you willing to spend?

If money is no object, go with Morimoto H11b kit from TRS (Theretrofitsource.com).

Otherwise, there are many other more economical alternatives, with a lot of opinions on how good they are.

These quick start ballasts/HIDs intrigue me. If you get them, make sure you specify that they send you the H11 bulbs with the ground wire located between the mounting tabs on the base.

I have their bulbs, but not their ballasts. I can vouch for their bulbs, high quality at reasonable prices.

 

What's the advantage of a retrofit?

 

Better light output & a sharper, cleaner cutoff

 

Not much. I've retrofitted my car. Yes the light output is better. I have awesome high beams. And I get a super sweet cutoff. I just don't like that I have to take off my bumper to change my bulb. And that the water tightness is very tight. But it was a quick install.

HID kit is easy, cheap and have great result. Installation can be done less than 30mins. No tool needed. Don't get those cheap ebay HID kits. Most of the 35W ballast kits sell on ebay are garbage. A good Ballast makes huge difference. I recommend you the Zenex 50W ballast. I used it almost 2 years, never have any issue.

 

Is there a particular kit that stands out above the rest that someone can post a link to maybe with some how to install video ?

 

Installation is basically just plugging in the wires, that shouldn't be an issue if you have ever done anything for your car. Check youtube anyway if you feel unsure.
