I have a new black Prius, I know how hard it is to keep black looking good, but I love black. I have been encouraged by the dealer to bring it in for some teflon type coating by Dupont that they put on, extra money, but it is supposed to warranty the paint against environmental things like acid rain, tree sap, etc. Supposed to prevent having to wax often and getting those swirl marks too. After this is applied they said you only go over it every 6 months with special stuff. I would like to protect the paint and was going to do this.
Any thoughts on it? Are there other products that you can apply yourself to do the same thing? I liked that it was warrantied for 5 years then. But I wanted opinion, if its worth it. I want to keep the black looking good. I just had my painter pinstripe it and add a painted mural on the back.

We got the coating, along with the rustproofing and interior spray and undercoat. It was an all-in-one "summer special" and we probably gave in to impulse and got suckered, but we'll know in about ten years, I guess! So far it's only been two weeks, so I have no advice to offer.

Unfortunately some tree sap has already dropped on my car and I need to call the dealer to ask how I should remove it without voiding the warranty on the coating....

Look for the threads on Zaino. It makes black a shimmering liquid.

No difference. You're supposed to wax your car every 6-12 months anyway. And yeah, look up Zaino in the search feature.

So basically I would probably be wasting money, and can keep it looking just as good with the products discussed here? Thanks.. I wanted some opinions and wasn't sure if this DuPont coating thing was good or unnecessary.

PS- The back of my Prius has a snowmobiler, a cat head (Arctic Cat) and my handle "Snowbound" painted in green and white.
I will post a pic eventually

I have a 2005 Black Prius and used Zaino(thanks to Bill Merchant). It really gave the car a "show" shine that people have commented on it. For the Canadian Prius owners here is the web site to the Canadian distributor.

I put Zaino on my black Pri and I LOVE it. It looks amazing. That's all I can say.

Just wash it every week or so and be careful not to scratch it. Scratches show the light-gray basecoat if they're deep enough.
