I got a new hybrid battery for $2700 (dealer wanted $5000). Went across country for one year to take care of my brother. Battery be ok without running for a year?

If it is indeed a new OEM battery from Toyota, it should be fine sitting for a year. You may need to keep the smaller 12v battery on a trickle charger or disconnect it so it won't drain as quickly.

Yes on a brand new one... But if you want to follow best practices spend the next year learning about building your own HV trickle charger so when you use the pack again it will be fully charged and balanced and any harms from a year's worth of self discharge will be less of an issue as years go by because you learned / built this: Build Hybrid Battery Maintenance Gear For Under $100 | PriusChat

Or just get a more expensive consumer product with this: Prolong Battery Systems | Hybrid Automotive California, USA or this: https://www.maxx-volts.com/
