Needing a smart key in the DFW area

Maybe some good news here: I had the same thing happen to me many, many years ago and the police were able to lift excellent prints off the very clean exterior. They told me it wouldn't prove the thief entered the car but at least would place them at the scene. He was caught after numerous other thefts and his prints were linked to mine. I got enough restitution for reimburse of my insurance deductible.

I assume you still have YOUR fob to your 2010 Prius (a working fob will be needed to access the car's system to do the programming of the car to accept the new fob). You have time to search for a new fob at a price acceptable to you (& a dealer or locksmith to program your car for the new fob), but the thing that needs to be addressed immediately is to delete from your car's memory the registration of only the stolen fob because the thief most likely has your address (from some of the personal information that was most likely in your wife's purse) & he can come to your house soon & if the old fob is still registered in your car's memory, he can just unlock it, get in & drive off with your 2010 Prius. You should also have the lock cylinder in the driver's door replaced because even after you've had the fob replaced & the old missing one's registration deleted so the car can't be stolen, that same thief can still come by your house & get into the 2010 & make off with the contents any time he pleases.

Delete the stolen fob right away, but don't be too long with only one fob because if that one gets lost, you'll have to pay much more to get your car's security system re-seeded before you can get your car to accept ANY new fob(s). If you're worried that the thief will come by later & still be able to get inside your car (but not be able to move it after you get the old fob deleted from the car's memory), then I would start by getting the new lock cylinder first (or having a locksmith re-pin? the old cylinder if that's possible), so you have a new key code to laser cut the new fob's metal key to for emergency entrance, if needed (& you will have to get a new metal key blank to go along with your original fob to allow you emergency entrance if your fob's battery ever dies).
