    Guys,

Can someone suggest the easiest place to get 12V switched by ignition power for my autodimming mirror? I have found the constant 12V up at the overhead console connector but cant get switched power up there.

Am I going to have to access it at the drivers side kick panel?

That's exactly what I see every time I look under the dash, and the reason I have a professional do the installation of any electrical addition! Too many wires and they all look the same to me!

This almost literally looks like our datacenter, where I spend several hours per week tracing cable runs... Only our cables are BLUE.

Does anyone know where I can get switched power (Ready mode) under the hood? I want to run DRL's to that circuit.
    Thanks.

You might want to use a volt meter to check circuits under the hood, at the fuse block. A switched circuit has power "off" = no voltage, power "on" = switched voltage.

Also, Pep Boys and other automotive stores sell a two fuse plug that fits into the original fuse socket. The second fuse has a power wire built in. Connect to that.

Thanks very much. Just for clarification, do have any way of superimposing an arrow or other marker over the correct wire? Are we talking about the top connector block (with the splice) or the bottom one coming out of the white connector block.
    Thanks again.

I believe it's the black wire with the red splice connector on it (yellow wire goes to the DRL Module), It appears best in the 3rd picture. I did not take these, they were taken by a guy who did the Web Electric Products DRL Install on his 2010 Prius. I'm getting that mod done to mine, but will be providing the pictures to the installer.

If you down load the pictures they may be larger and easier to see...

OP - are you looking for 12 volts switched on when the headlights are on? I would think that's how you'd want the auto-dim mirror to work.

    Greg,

I suppose headlight power should work for the EC mirror. I was going to go for on with ignition. Doesnt appear present up by the done light connector. I did get my constant 12V there however.

Are the wiring diagrams not available for the 2010 yet?

Just to add another thought/idea, a few times, I've located the fused circuit I prefer (like the 12V acc) - and modify a 'fuse' by soldering to a wire. If correctly oriented, this gives fuse protection, and easy access.

Of course, you must sand the tip of the micro fuse edge, and use lots-o-flux - but it works nicely...

You can buy fuses with wire and fuse bridges from most auto places.

Craig, it sounds like you've already done the wiring. If you follow my mod for LED lighting of the low-bridge console, I discovered a tie-in for 12 volts switched on only when the headlights are on. It's just under the lower glove box.

    Greg,

Hmmmm.....So are you saying if I remove the lower glove box I can grab 12V when headlights are on? That would work fine so long as I can get the wire up into the headliner. In fact, if removing the lower glove box is easlier than removing the drivers side three panels as per the Toyota method I might try this.

If you follow my mod, I describe how to remove some of the plastic loom that protects the wires to the LED above the lower glovebox. Then you have access to 2 wires, white (ground) and green (hot), which become powered only when the parking or headlights are on. The trick is fishing wires up along the A pillar in such a way that they are hidden and do not impede the side air bags inside. There is a flexible bisque colored trim piece that runs up the door frame near the glove box that you could tuck the wires into. Then the headliner has some give near the upper edge of the windshield that you could continue to hide the wires under. Again, this is only a solution if it is an auto-dim mirror ONLY. If it is an aftermarket Homelink mirror, you want power as soon as you READY the car.

In a dark garage, turn on your parking lights and open the lower glovebox. You will see the amber LED that has the power you need for your mod.
