It's time to replace the tires on my 2010 Prius model V. While there seems to be a number of options for the 15" wheels, there aren't nearly as many for the 17" wheels on my car. The OEM tires are Michelin Pilot's. I called Discount Tire and to replace with the same tires are $200+ per tire. They recommended a set of Yokohama YK580's. They are $133/tire and rated for 45K miles. Does anyone have any expererience to share with these tires or recommendations on others? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
F8L has a lot posts regarding 17" tires. Here are some of them: Total lifetime cost for fuel and tires over 150,000 miles | PriusChat This one has both 15" and 17"... Low Rolling Resistance replacement tires: Current List | PriusChat ps-I ended up getting the Michelin Primacy MXM4 as my posts around page 22-23 (or so) indicated on the LRR replacement tires linky above.
Two recommendations for 17" wheels, I have used both: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Michelin Primacy MXM4. The Pilot Sport tires are noisier and probably ride a bit harsher but have better traction under most conditions, the Primacys (what I have now) are more civilized but still perform very well.
I'm stuck between the Primacy MSM4's and the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422. The Bridgestone's are an LRR tire and rated for 65K miles. They will likely not ride as well as the Michelin's.
I have no experience with the Ecopia but I am very happy with the Primacy. I will probably buy another set when these wear out.
I also have the 215/45R17 Pilots as OEM (Canadian "Touring" model). They've a lot of tread left, but it's never to soon to start researching. I'm pretty much settled on Michelin Primacy MXM4. I was thinking of the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422, but have been reading some negative reviews on TireRack, both for road handling and RR... The Primacy actually shows as being LRR on TireRack, but maybe not as good as EP422's as far as RR? If it would at least match the OEM Pilot's that would be fine by me.
Well, I think there's a gamut within LRR. Regardless of them having the LRR tag, I've got mixed expectations regarding just how LRR they are. I just wish Michelin Energy Savers came in 215/45R17. Or 205/50R17. All in: if I was shopping today, I'd likely go for the Primacy, in 215/45R17, weighing all the factors, not just RR.
