Hi question about engine braking. I was on the freeway and was rear ended. Traffic was stopping fast and I broke, and at the same time a car hit me in the rear because they were texting maybe 15-20 mph. They fixed the bumper damage and straightened the frame. But insurance collision shop wouldn't check out the clicking (Farmers/21st Century shop). They said insurance wouldn't let them. Later I took to toyota for free diagnosis. Ends up both front axles causing the noise. But they said noise doesn't sound like the typical worn axle, they said it sounded different. Question how does the engine braking work? does it actually stop the axles from turning?? And if I was fully on the braking and a car rear ended me, trying to push me forward, and it a sense trying to roll the wheels, would that cause damage to the joint? Car was pushed and rear lifted shifting weight to the front. I had no clicking prior , 2012 prius 86000. Have any of you 2012 3rd ben owners had your axles go bad this early? Thanks ahead. Any help appreciated. Insurance sent supposedly a toyota specialist who said it was wear and tear. I have to file a complaint, but I'm not sure how to explain it. Thank you!
