I had my car serviced by my neighbour a few months ago.
He said the 'CV gator' had broke and was leaking.
I had a tyre changed today, the guy said there was something leaking.

'CV gator' - I looked up on youtube and couldn't find.
What is the part I should be looking up?

My neighbour said the part was super cheap, but the problem was installing - you had to take loooads of things apart.

    How much work is involved?
If a garage or mechanic fixed, how much time would it take them?

    Thanks.

Never ever heard it called 'gator' before.

There are such things as split replacements, that you can assemble around the joint without taking it all apart, and then somehow join together. I have no idea how durable those are. For all I know, they might exceed my expectations, which wouldn't be hard to do.
