Need a new spare emergency Key, not a whole fob

    Hi there, I am Looking to deactivate my key fob and hide it in the car. Anyone else had a spare emergency key made for a decent price. After lots of digging, I found one for $30 bucks on ebay part number: 69515-47030 I would like to hide one somewhere in the outside of my vehicle just in case the bag Im leaving out in the waterpark gets stolen and so I can still access my car with my deactivated key fob left inside the car.

    I checked at my local locksmith but he said I would need to get a blank and then he can do it. The sienna emergency key looks similar but appears to be a bit longer than the prius's. Thanks in advance all!

    Of course I could just bring my other key fob emergency key but thought I could get one for a few bucks.

    i thought people were getting them at home depot, but maybe just getting them cut.

    Why not just use they metal key from your deactivated fob?

    That's what I did.
    Take the battery and the keylet out of the spare fob, and you're all set.

    Good idea Sam. I'll have to go to a couple different locksmiths. I am sure after a couple years they will have cheap knockoffs on ebay, so maybe I'll just use the official one until then as a spare from my spare fob.

    I have tried between five and 10 locksmith over the past year and still have not found anyone who can copy the emergency key to my 2006 Prius successfully. I did have one guy try but he run the blank and did not charge me it looked OK but didn’t do a damn thing. I am in the NYC area. If anyone has any helpful tips especially an exact place in Brooklyn or NYC where I could get the emergency copied it would be a great help. I have already tried the home depot’s in my area and none of them can do it. I already have another blank for what it’s worth. Thanks for the help!

    Perhaps it’s obvious, but have you tried a Toyota dealer service department?

    You may need to explain that you want—and expect to pay for—only the cutting of a mechanical key, not any reprogramming of the Smart Key system.

    Dealers are required to have a high-security key cutting machine (Ilco Tri-Code HS, BD Laser, or equal) for just this purpose, and if your blank is the correct one, they should be able to cut it from an existing key or from the five-digit code stamped on the key number plate (made of aluminum, 9 mm × 22 mm) that came with the car.

    The 2006 uses an ordinary edge cut key that most any locksmith should be able to duplicate. It all comes down to operator skill in locking the keys properly into the key cutter. I've got several copies that cost like $2 or so at a local hardware store. In addition to the keyfob style blank, you can also use an ordinary key blank (TR-47?) like older Toyotas used for at least a decade. I did pay $10 once to a locksmith to copy my keyfob key to a keyfob blank that I provided. Maybe these modern automatic systems like Home Depot uses can't accept the short keyfob key?
