Just saw the headlines on the "Today Show" this morning. They are doing their reports on the environment from the North Pole, Antarctica, and the Equator. One of the Items reported on was that $4.00 per gallon gas is on the way!! Yesterday, I saw some guy driving a big 4 door full sized truck, new, off the lot.

What are people thinking? Don't they know gas prices are going up? That think would cost $75 bucks to fill now, let alone if prices increase.

Anyway, $4 per gal. gas is the only way I'd ever pay $40 for a fill up ( in my Prius!!) :D :D I'll try to keep the smugness under control........ B)

Some people actually need those big things you know. About 10% of the owners. In other parts of the world people still drive 2.5 tonne 4X4s around even though petrol is well over $4.00 per US gallon here it goes as high as $5.00US a US gallon, Europe is higher.

A fill up on my prius is already the equivalent of $65

It's just passed £1 per litre here, or £4.54 per UK gallon = £3.63 per US gallon = $7.33

    Is that right?

If money is no object then $4.00 a gal will not matter to some people who drive big cars.

In the S.F. Bay Area, this is the second time this year that gas prices have bumped into $4.00/gallon territory.

    £3.78 = $7.89 on that converter

£1 is currently worth about $2

I wish the price would go up to $4.00 gallon today by adding an additional $1./gallon tax which would go to subsidize mass transit.

    Did you vote yet today?!?

Even I will be paying $110 to fill my tank but if we charge $10/gal (which at least $7 will go to mass transit development), I would say go for it.

Only $4 a gallon? Sounds cheap to me.

At the pump the other day, a guy who was filling up his SUV told me, with a smirk, he doesn't care how much gas costs since he writes it off against his business. I just rolled my eyes and laughed to myself. You see, the $100 or so he paid to fill up still comes out of his profits, so his family is $100 poorer for the fill up. Also, even if he is in a top tax bracket (around 50% including the social security tax he must pay) his family is STILL out $50 for that one fill up. This doesn't even take into account the add-on pollution he is responsible for. There is not accounting method which covers stupid. I am so tired of the "Lowered expectations" which the bushivites have foisted on us as a nation. I want to be challenged to loftier goals rather than challenged as to what I can 'get away' with.

Up here in Seattle prices are already $3.25/gal for reg unleaded, and we have a big transportation initiative on the ballots. Idiots will probably vote 'no' saying we can't afford it, and then they will be the loudest complainers when gas goes up to $4.00/gal next Spring.

    Go figure.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink....

On a related note, there are some people who voted for dubya who still think they are correct and that history will bear them out....

the maths is right but the currency conversion is about 3 years out of date, currently just over 2 US dollars to the £ which gives us paying $7.56 or more per gallon

of course that means we save even more in our prii !

Yeah, but if he used the "Giant Business SUV Tax Break" he's probably paying less for it than he would for a Prius even with gas included.

I am really tired of being called a "moon-bat liberal" by conservative radio hosts! I bought XM radio for the car so I wouldn't drive into a tree or have a stroke when my blood pressure boiled. Here in Wisconsin those guys REFUSE to even consider that improved mass transit would be good for everyone. So in spite of the fact that I live in property tax hell, I have no choice but to drive if I want to go anywhere. Now that I am retired I don't HAVE to drive anywhere every day, so if gas goes to $5 a gallon, I'll just stay home a few more days a week. Then maybe I will have to get XM radio for the house, too. Ah well, hook up the iPod!

You guys ever devote much thought to the thousands upon thousands of folks who need trucks to make a living? How about the thousands (millions?) who are stuck with a 10+ year old gas guzzler trying to raise a family on $30K a year? I like my Prius, have a "green" house, recycle, etc., but I don't celebrate the rise in gas prices. Ironically, the vast majority of those folks who don't "need" the big truck can either afford the gas for it or can afford another vehicle. Millions of others aren't so lucky. Maybe I'm just in a sour mood today, but damn, this forum seems elitist at times.

I heard that news story as well and it prompted me to look for a station as soon as I could. Everytime I go by my corner station the price is higher by 5-10 cents.

My hubby and I are planning a road trip to the Smokies from Fla soon and this little bit of info gave me a bit of ammunition in support of my desire to take the Prius instead of my husband's Jeep Gran Cherokee. Boys and their Jeeps! He's worried that my Prius won't be able to handle the mountains. I'm gonna show him!!! I showed him entries on this forum that this little car has plenty of power for the mountains. I'm so looking forward to our first roadtrip in my Prius! :p
