Is there any info about navigation map updates - how to apply, where to get, what areas is covered (when I plan to travel)

    I have Plug-in Prius with Go2

Sorry no one has responded yet. It's probably because we don't know how this is done in Estonia. In the US, updating the maps requires a trip to the dealer and (from what I've read) about $100. Per year. I refuse to do that when my Garmin GPS gets free updates.

There are threads here, though about when the updates are released if you google them. But it may not be the same in all countries.

Since about the '16 models, there is a plugin chip that the owner can change out.
I think the cost is about the same.

You do not have to do it every year.
I do mine every two or three.

They put in dozens of new streets and roads every year around here. But you're right that the maps probably don't need to be perfectly up to date.

And adding those roads doesn't automatically put them on the map updates. IIRC, the data used to make navigation files is likely a year old.

I was told by my Toyota dealership that the updated maps/navigation are out. I have an appointment on Monday, April 22nd to get my navigation system updated.

I/we will be VERY interested in knowing what they are going to charge you for unplugging the old chip and plugging in the new one......that is accessible right there on the dash.

On the web site, when I checked today, it was $169 to do it myself. I don't think so!!!

Toyota is charging $210 for the card and $126 in labor.... told me it’s not just plugging in a card and updating it.... needs to download software with a password that is on the SD card

Scratch that the guy made a mistake... it was just $210 for the card.... not labor charge...

Which is why they sell very few updates, that card doesn't cost them $20 to make. My daughter's TomTom came with free updates for life. Download whenever you want. Her entire machine cost less than Toyota wants for a single map update SD card. Toyota should charge $25 and spread the "development" cost over tens of thousands of cars.

Since Jerry said the card costs $169 online, you are being charged $41 to take the old card out and put the new one in. I seriously doubt there is anything the service tech has to do to update the maps that you can't do yourself.

Will the $33 one listed on Amazon work?

Any link? If $33, I will update my 2016 version of the map which is starting to get old in some places I visit. But for retail price Toyota charges, there is no way I will update the in-car nav. I will buy a brand new Garmin Drive Assist with a lifetime map update instead.

There isn't. When I got my 2017 (in 2019), I made sure it got the latest maps as part of the sale. They shipped me a MicroSD card which took longer than you'd expect to install.

You can't do it with your fingers, it's completely recessed. I finally had to get a flathead screwdriver and a set of needle nose pliers to get it out. I didn't have to force anything, it was an access issue.

To make a long story short, yes, all you have to do is take out the old one and pop in the new. When the car starts up, the software does its thing and eventually you have updated maps, POIs, etc.

I still have a gripe with speed limits in my area, but that's for other threads...

Probably a pirated copy. If you buy it, let us know how it worked.

Went to the link. It's already not available and it says, "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

I know the MicroSD cards are pretty specific. Before there dealer ordered it, they asked for the model number off the display. There's 4 or 5 digit alpha numeric text there and apparently that's important. It's printed on the unit, not something you need the car on to retrieve

Map updates for my 2017 Prime have never been available. The original is still from 2016. Over 3 years.

If you check with the dealer, the update should be available. But a brand new Garmin with free lifetime map updates costs a lot less.
