Is it possible to purchase the NAV unit from the dealer and can I install it or do they have to?

Are you talking about fitting factory Nav to a non-nav car. Why? It would be cost prohibitive. That thing is tied into a option unique MFD, JBL Audio Amp, wheel speed sensors, etc. and requires various wiring harnesses etc, not included in non-nav car.
Just buy a Garmin Nuvi. Way better, easy install, portable.

    Doesn't your Prius have nav?

Confused as well - Package 6 comes with the Nav and should have the most up to date DVD.

Maybe he doesn't realize he bought a Prius w/ nav.
Hey, it could happen...a couple years ago there was some guy on here who spent $35,000 for a Prius!! and didn't realize the dealer had ripped him a new one until a few days or weeks later. He went back and complained and they laughed.

You should have one with pkg 6. However, I have a TomTom One handheld and it works much better. If you get/have the factory installed one you can not make any changes while you are in motion. Also with the TomTom there is a traffic service that one can get to tell you if there are any delays in your route.

Sorry, Meant package 3 No NAV. But sounds like trying to get upgraded to package 6 is out of question. Wanted to avoid two screens, one for the current panel and one for a Tom-Tom or such. Oh Well

You should edit your profile to reflect your correct package number in order to prevent future misunderstandings.

I don't have a link, but I know someone on this chat has talked about an option that's sorta between the two options. It uses the screen, but you need to use a remote to change stuff.

In my opinion two screens are better than one, anyway. You get to watch yourself drive on a road -and- watch your mileage at the same time. While using hands-free bluetooth on the phone, as you drive off the road, totally distracted. ;)
