Newbie question. BTW, I did do a search, but none of the results answered my question. :D

I recently purchased a used Prius. I'm still getting used to the Prius with its bells and whistles. I've never had/used a NAV system before, so all is new to me.

2005 Prius, originally purchased new in 11-05, and then purchased used by me (through a dealer) in 3-07. No known modifications. No leather seats, but loaded otherwise (pkg #6 I think).

Parked or driving, when I use the NAV system, I get the "I agree" screen. I push that and it seems like I can access everything, even if I am driving. I can input a destination (which I have actually done while driving - I know, shame-shame on me) and the system will generate a route and start guidance. Granted, I do not know a lot about this system, but I take it from reading the forum that this is not what normally ocurrs. I've done a search and everyone talks about disabling the system. I am not sure what is to be disabled (perhaps mine already is?).

Maybe I am misunderstanding the posts - does the system usually lock you out from inputing a destination while moving? If so, I guess I should be happy with the "bug" that allows me to use it.

TIA. I have learned (and am sill learning) a lot from this forum.

I wish I knew what was done to yours to eliminate that lockout as it is truly a pain. sometimes my wife is driving and I want to input an address and we must pull over to do it...

For a 2006+ you have a couple of options. The cheapest is to cut the speed sensor wire and install a switch. Switch to off when you want to enter info and then turn it back on.

There's also a company called Coastal Tech which sells a Lock Pick. It almost sounded like Nelda had one of those installed, but they take care of the "I Agree" as well.

In order for the passenger to be able to operate the address screen while the car is moving faster than 3 mph, find the "volume" screen. Make four finger taps on the screen (push the screen) as follows:

Finger tap the upper left hand corner of the screen
Finger tap the lower left hand corner
Finger tap the upper left hand corner again
Finger tap the lower left hand corner again

On the screen that appears, pus "override" until you hear a beep (about five seconds)

    Enjoy

Right, but it takes a few seconds before it happens. If you immediately press "I Agree", you might not notice that it switches off itself. OTOH, if your going above the 3 mph (or whatever), you usually have to press the stick pin in the upper-left corner of the display to complete the override process. That takes a second or going through each step of the automated screen dance.
