Danman and some others have 'held out' on the LSC to update the NAV DVD and may get to reap the benefits of their patience. There's a post over on the Yahoo 2G group that says the current version is 5.1.

Can anyone who just recently took delivery of a Prius please check their DVD version. This is accessible through the menus on your MFD or you can simply eject the disc from under the driver's seat and see what it says on top.

    5.1? Geez! I guess I missed 4.3, then. Was there a 4.3?

    I don't think so.

Geeze, Evan, it's been in my signature for like 6 weeks now... I posted about it when I got my car, and in a few other posts afterwards. You're way behind the curve! (heh-heh)

What I'd really like to find out -- and which we had discussed in other threads -- is just what has changed? I don't know of anyone who knows.

I asked Denso, and also suggested they put up a web page showing what the current rev level is, and what has changed on each update (a 'revision history'), and they simply told me they don't interface with the customer, that I should talk to Toyota... :(

OK, now were there any problems getting that as the Free Replacement DVD, and if anybody did that was it a painless step-up from 3.1 (or whatever)?

The service rep I talked to a few weeks back was going to look into what I could get, and if 5.1 looks good then I'll call and expedite the replacement...

Yup, it is about the time. The parts department lady informed me that the new DVD was coming out in several weeks when I got my last oil changed, which was several weeks ago.

Now the question is, can we get 5.1 with the SSC-40J, or will they only give us 4.2?

Huh, can you make that bigger? B)

Sorry Wayne, didn't see or missed the thread where you posted this and just didn't notice it in your signature.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter. You'll get what you'll get. But, it seems unlikely that they'd keep stamping out v4.2 just for the few stragglers from the LSC-40J campaign. I bet you'll get v5.1....then you can burn me a copy..... :p

No worries, some people don't even have signatures turned on. I just saw an opportunity to pick on ya... ;)

I doubt I would become a distibution point for bootleg Nav DVDs... Besides, there's another thread here where they can't even figure out how to make a backup copy...

You will probably get 4.2. The supply for 40J does NOT come through the Toyota parts distribution system. I hope I'm wrong.

I wonder if we can get the new '06 NAV updates through an '06 DVD or is it something hardware/firmware related?

The car is shipped with whatever DVD version is currently available. You can get later versions for a fee.

The 2006 NAV should not be any different than 2004-2005. It is designed so that its firmware can get updated with the updated DVD.

While speakng to a Lexus Mark Levinson product specialist this weekend, I asked about the updated display on the Lexus IS. It has a higher resolution than the standard 7" display in the Toyota and other Lexus models; he called it a Generation 5 display.

He did say that the new GS 450 coming out next year will have the same G5 display and that he expects all new Lexus and possibly Toyotas to migrate to the G5 display eventually.

He didn't know if dropping a G5 based Nav DVD into a G4 display would work or not :( I would have been nice to try, but we couldn't find the opportunity.

I can say that the general resolution of the Lexus GS 430's G4 display is pretty low, comparable to sub $400 portable DVD player resolutions, while the Lexus IS 350's Generation 5 is MUCH better.

Sorry...a bit late to this subject. I have also been holding out for the revision to my Sat Nav. Is there a deadline? Worth waiting any longer?

I'm hoping it's like most GOOD software: check the hardware's capabilities, and use the best settings available...
