I made the image below for someone else that needed help but he never responded.

Anyways, I was driving to school today. Going about 45mph on on off ramp that curves slightly when my Slip indicator light turned on and blinked maybe 10 times or so. I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow as the manual seuggest. Anyone ever had experiences with this before? My car only has 7,500 miles.

    It's the PURPLE box.

    +1

You were going down an off-ramp which presumably means you were braking. You were most likely using the regenerative brakes. If you even look at them wrong, they will slip. You most likely hit a small patch of gravel/dirt, small pothole, small tar-repair that left the road with a little hump or ridge-line and that caused that wheel to be detected going a different speed than the other wheels which is perfectly normal. In this case, the car blinks the skid icon, disengages the regen braking and that's it.

Very normal, don't even worry about.

You're calling it the "slip indicator" but you could also refer to it as your traction control light.

Which will blink and activate any time the vehicle encounters a driving surface or condition that is causing it to slip or lose traction.

It makes me nervous, to ever recommend to someone over the internet that they "don't" get something checked out. Safety first.

But I would suggest that it is entirely possible that conditions on the off ramp for whatever reason caused your vehicle to sense it was losing traction, and thus activated traction control.

Since we are dealing with traction? I would make sure all my tires are inflated properly.
Being a new vehicle you can mention it to the service department. No cost except time to get it checked. But my pure unsubstantiated guess, is that your traction control system was simply operating as it should.

I have standard Prius, and on occasions if I hit rough pavement, gravel, or other surfaces that cause the wheels to lose contact or changes the traction, my traction control light will activate and the system will kick in.

On the standard Prius it is a pretty aggressive system.

When I notice it, I slow down. It also will affect how you vehicles is braking.

Did you notice any other change in driving feel? The times it has happened to me, you have to be careful because usually braking distance is increased, as the traction control system works to keep the vehicle moving straight and in synch.

I didn't notice any big difference in driving. It was very fast. I'm stating to think that it was just gravel or a small slip. If there was an actual malfunction it would be reasonable for the light to come on and STAY ON. With that said, since it only blinked, it's probably just gravel. Thanks for the info guys.

The circumstance in which the light comes on most for me is braking and hitting little stutter bumps or holes in the road. The light comes on, the light goes off. Universal balance is re-forged. Life goes on.

I've had that light come on in the winter when I was driving through some snow and was slipping a little bit. Overall it seemed to help during those times.

I've also had it come on while gently braking over over railroad tracks. It comes on then turns off after a second or so. I've been hearing that it's less damaging to your car's suspension if you go over them quickly as opposed to crawling over them. Anyone got verification for that?
