why?
I thought it was supposed to be 34mph
Is there a way of raising it to about 38mph B)
I know about the MG1 rev issue

or was it MG2 :p

Due to the epicyclic gearbox the engine (ICE) has to start up to prevent one of the electric motors over revving above a certain speed
which I thought was higher than 30mph
I think its in the useful sticky stuff at the top of this forum

It's not just the MPH. If you accelerate too quickly, or if your SOC drops too low, it will exit EV mode.

54 km/h is the max ev mode speed, you can engage ev at 55km/h but i find it sometimes kick me out so i use 54km/h as a safe bet.

soc below 50% EV mode will not engage, lowest i've seen in ev mode is 48% (two pink bars).

coolant must be above 40 degrees C and engine must be finished with "enrichment fuel mode" when starting the engine for the first time (anyone know how to bypass this stupid step please let me know since i use an engine block heater)

Because UK Prius manual says the EV mode is canceled at 28 mph.
Japaanese Prius manual says it is 55 km/h (34 mph).

You have to be reasonably gentle to get to 34 MPH. I typically exit in the high 20's... Acceleration matters.

Ken that looks like the reason
Is there different software for different markets?
Or a config setting somehwere?

I believe so.
I'm curious how they are wrriten on other EU/AU/NZ Prius manuals.
I don't think the setting is configurable.

Mine drops out at between 30mph and 32mph. UK Spec T-Spirit.

Was quite surprised as the manual says 28mph (which is a bit annoying if that is the case)

I seem to drive in quite a bit of traffic which moves at around 30mph - dropping to 20-25mph - rising to 35mph.
Before getting the car I thought it was all within the EV mode.

Do you think they found excessive UK initial battery failures so backed off the setting?

If you start accelerating gently in EV and just lock your foot at
that position, you're demanding a steady amount of torque but over
an increasing range of RPM. *Power* is torque * RPM. Power is also
volts * amps. So even with your foot steady, battery current tends
to climb since its voltage is essentially constant. Once you're
asking for 10 kilowatts, poof, that's the engine turn-on threshold
[at nominal six-bars SOC]. To stay EV-only right up to 40 mph,
you'd have to keep feathering your foot back and back and accelerate
less hard as you approached it, which generally doesn't work mixed
up in today's traffic -- you'd also be using a lot of battery, which
hurts overall MPG.
.
So don't worry about it...

The speedometer dispaly is intentionally biased to meet "UN-ECE Regulation No. 39".
http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=37586&st=1

Japanese manual says it is 55 km/h, but my speedometer reading is 61 km/h when the EV mode is canceled.

that spec only says the speed should read fast
i.e between 0% fast
and 10% +4kph fast
it doesnt say it should be that fast!

I thought manufacturers aimed at 3% fast to allow for tyre wear

are you really saying the Prius is set to be 10% fast
if so that would mean choosing tyre size with a 10% bigger rolling radius to bring it back into line

If I have that the right way around

I believe our passenger cars are categories M, so the upper limit is 10% +6km/h fast.
IMHO, it says the speed should not read below actual.
Yes, my 2004 Japanese Prius tells me +6 km/h fast.
The later Japanese model tells us +3 km/h fast.

My ScanGauge reading is presently half fast.

Still working on the calibration.

Our 2007 Prius can drive in EV mode up to 40mph. Once it turns to 41mph the engine will turn on no matter what.

I drive 35-40mph with the engine off all the time. I don't think 34mph is the limit.

We are talking about EV switch cancel speed, not pure EV drive mode up to 40 mph.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(prius2go @ Sep 18 2007, 06:06 AM) </div>
No description because the US Prius does not have the EV switch.
