My new prius rocks!

    We have our new 2012 Prius Three for 10 days now and it's great! Much better than I thought. I was affraid I will have to "settle" for it (because of the MPG) but the vehicle is actually FUN! Of course, it's a learning curve - you have to "re-learn" how to drive (pulse&glide is a lot different than with "normal" cars) but now driving is like a game to me - how to get more MPG? Yesterday I erase the trip A and check the daily mileage - at the end of the day I had 73 miles with 52.0 average MPG!!! Love it! Last ride of the day (within the neighborhood with 25 MPH speed limit) I pass 9.4 miles with the average 73.4 MPG!!! Unbeliveable! No-key entrance and locking on 3 doors, back-up camera, apps,... This car put smile on my face every time I drive!
    One question - when I picked it up from the dealership my EV worked fine (turned off at 25 MPH). I left the vehicle back at the dealership after 3 days to install illuminated door seals, lower door moulding and heated leather seats :)D) and after that my EV mode is turning off as soon as I hit 10 MPH!?! Any ideas???
    Long story short - our new Prius will save us a lot of $$$ every year and we are already thinking about another one!

    EV mode is very temperamental. There's other factors that kick in other than speed, such as temperature, battery level, engine startup, etc.

    Welcome aboard... nice introduction.

    Just use EV went moving the car short distances like out of the garage, otherwise forgetta bout it. It will actually reduce mileage overall. EV mode limits (10 -25 up to a possible 46 mph) is dictated by a few environment variables such as the engine and cab temps, stage, and terrain. It has nothing to do with the mods.

    Thank you very much for the explanation/ suggestions. That explains a lot. Still, it's kinda strange that it happens right after service people did their work... And it's always 10 MPH. But if that's not saving the gas I don't care about it haha.
    Every day I'm doing better and better with pulse&glide - now I'm always over 50 MPG. Very exciting!...
    I was very surprised to see the black alloys under the hub caps - love the look! Went to Lowe's and bought electric box covers for $1 a piece, black spray for $1 and now I have center hubcaps on my "aftermarket" black wheels!... Goes great with tinted windows and silver color!...
    I'm having a lot of fun with my new toy and I'm already getting on my wife's nervs talking about my newest "MPG record".

    Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one getting on people's nerves about my MPG! We've had ours for 15 days and today I broke my record, getting 61 mpg going to town :0) Have you created an account at Fuelly.com? Then you can really brag about it and put your mpg in your signature, lol. I haven't fueled up yet since joining, so I don't know my true average yet, but I'm excited to find out.

    I also do the P&G now; the Prius has literally taught me how to drive! Before, I had no clue...just mashed the gas and went, you know? I also love that it tells you how much each trip has cost you. Of course, you have to update the fuel price every time you refuel. Why they don't require the mpg meter to be in all cars, I'll never know. It sure makes you a lightfoot on the pedal.

    I just purchased my Prius 3 last night..... After having a problem with the factory alram, i am up and running....

    I have a question regarding how to check the mph i am getting... How do i find the mph i am getting?

    please help me newb... :confused:

    There are two EV Drive Mode limits - 10 mph and 25 mph. The lower limit is if the engine is cold. The higher limit is only "unlocked" when the engine is up to operating temperature. This is despite the fact that you can go into EV mode above 25mph, just not in EV Drive Mode.

    If by MPH you mean MPG, on your car, at least, I believe, you should have a 'Disp' button. Pushing that, you will cycle through some indications. You should see it on your MFD

    One will be the 'current' MPG based on how hard the engine is running, the harder you run the engine, the lower the MPG will be.

    Another press will give you your Trip's current MPG. Based on what Trip indicator you are on, it will show you the rough MPG the car calculated on gas used and miles driven.

    Another Press should give you the Odometer reading, I believe.

    Another Press will go to 'Set' for MFD display changes.

    Another Press will blank out the area, but then one more press, you cycle back.

    As for MPG
    1 Drive the speed limit.
    2 Drive like u have no brakes.
    3 Learn to anticipate stops and slowing ahead.
    4 Tries at 42/40 PSI.
