I tried RAV4 side molding because none is offered for a Prius and I wanted side molding which was color matched and Toyota quality. It seemed to make sense to invert the molding so that the straight edge would complement the lines of the new Prius and mount it low enough to be on the point which is closest to the next car in the parking lot.

I liked the way it came out and decided to share a photograph.

The lower rocker molding and mud flaps are from the PriusChat shop. Thanks Danny!

    Very nice, great job.
I bought matching side moldings from the Prius Chat shop, and the color match is perfect. They are simpler then yours, but very nice. Besides saving you from parking lot dings, side moldings also break up the visually large slab side of the PIP. Let me second Thanks Danny :)

I thought side moldings were available for Prius?
Isn't there options in the Prius Shop itself?

    I hate to say it....

But I really don't like those Rav 4 moldings...

They just look too large...out of synch....

    But.....they probably are very protective....

Ditto on the very nice! I like the tapered shape of the molding - looks very "factory" and not like an "add on". I like the euro mud guards, too. That is one protected PIP...

They do look great, but we can't have them here in NJ.
Have you noticed the PIP's windows have some type of light tint as is! I just realized this the other day. White is light gray windows up, and bright white windows down!

I don't know the brand. They are 30% which is the maximum allowed for passenger cars here in Washington State. The tinting cost $179.

The look of side molding IS a matter of personal taste. I know some like the look of a thin straight line better. I like the tapered look because the body side of the Prius is one big taper. The nice thing about things like this is that we can personalize them to fit our taste. As LenP said, the big slab look of the rear door can use some breaking up.

You can't see it in the photo, but the car also has a 3M film "bra". That Bizzard Pearl is not easy to match with touch up paint, so hopefully there won't be much of that.

Pretty cool mod! Do the moldings really protect the car though? The only ding I've gotten was right on the crease line, because that juts out further than the rest of the side! Fortunately it was tiny.

Toyota does offer BSM for the Prius, which are also tapered and have a rib in the midline. P/N is 00016-47050-10 for Blizzard Pearl. I installed them a couple weeks ago.

Excellent. I asked dealer and they didn't have them. I'll give them that PN and go with that. Thanks.

Yes the side moldings protect our car from those #$% SUV's who cannot seem to keep their doors to themselves...

We have the side molding like the one sold on PriusChat on the 2005 Prius (tan) and there are a number of dings in it...
    better it than my car...

The price was $93.38 for the 4 piece Prius BSM package. Make sure dealer includes instructions for install. If not in package, the parts guy can print out Document 09.41.00. It's helpful for getting the position right as well as proper cleaning/degrease prior to install. Since most of us don't have the magnetic straight edge tool, just use 3M blue tape and black thread or string stretched tight for proper alignment. Good luck!:spy:

WOW, those look better than the ones for the Prius! What the exact part # for the RAV ones? Looking on EBAY I noticed Rav 4 moldings from the dealer and they didn't seem to taper like yours. I want to get your exact ones color matched to my silver adv plug-in.
ALSO, I want to get the euro mud flaps like yours, but I want to get them color matched to my classic silver. ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT? Am I crazy for wanting this?

    Thanks!

    Hi blakemster

By taking the photo from the back of the car, I exaggerated the perspective of the taper. Inverting the molding also magnifies the taper effect. The effect is real from any angle, however. My first reaction when I came to the shop to pick the car up was "Those body side moldings look like they were meant for the Prius"!

The part # on my invoice is PT29A-42060-20 MLDG (Moulding?) I purchased it from my dealer for $160 plus sales tax but shopping around the Internet might get you a better price. Be sure to specify your silver color code.

I am not aware that the euro mud flaps from PriusChat shop are available in any other than black. They are fairly rigid in construction (they do not look like they would flex) and so they might take and hold a paint job.

When the shop installed my BSM, they struck a straight line on the bottom as installed. If you look closely, it might have been better if they had struck the straight line on the top.

I think they look great that way, if even with the top then I think the bottom would look on an angle and more noticeable. I like it great job!

Do you mean the curved part would be on top and the straight on the bottom?

Hmm...gotta think about that. Just got mine and dealer is going to put them on Thursday.

With the curve on top and straight on the bottom it would mimic the shape of the car and the straight line on the bottom would match up to the straight line at the top of the rocker cover strips.

What do do? What to do?

OK, got my moldings on, exactly like yours ... and I love 'em...

Also had the euro mud flaps painted to match my classic silver ... thought i came out pretty cool.

    thanks again for the idea!
