My 2017 prius 4 touring hybrid system indicator (HBI) has two meters that chase each other like playful dogs. One is blue and the other is light blue or green. I do not understand how they interact with each other. The dealer told me the top one was the battery and the bottom was gas. But trying to make sense of their interaction and what they mean when while chasing or making love to each other is a guessing game.

This posting seems like the best one, with the pictures embedded in the posting. How about report it, ask the moderators to delete the others? Also, it's posted in Gen 3, should be in Gen 4: they can move it as well.

I like the "playful dogs" analogy, by the way. :)

The blue line is the Eco Accelerator Guidance. The green line is your actual accelerator pedal input.

The blue line is just the car's suggestion of how hard you should be accelerating for good fuel economy. You don't always have to follow it (e.g. it may be suggesting to lightly accelerate but you're coasting to a red light). You can turn it off if you want.

I'd suggest changing from that screen (I stopped looking at it 15 months ago) to the Energy Monitor:
    upload_2017-10-29_12-50-19.png

It gives a much better idea of what is really happening, and reacts much more quickly. On the screen you've got up, the upload_2017-10-29_12-51-31.png indicator is very hit and miss.
