I was driving to work today and I got the "Add Fuel" message on the MFD.

I currently have 784 miles on the tank and it started blinking at me fifteen miles ago. Is it broken? :D

**puts on fire retardant suit to prepare for flaming for being smug**

    Have a good weekend.

Got a deal for you... why don't we trade weather, and i'll get that kind of mileage while you drive to work when it's 10 degrees out.

I will post a picture tonight of my consumption screen for you guys who live in the sub zero regions so that you can dream of next summer. :D

I think I might have to change into shorts for my ride home so that I don't have to use the A/C. It's 70F outside right now. Thank God I got my block heater last night in the mail. Time for me to try for higher.

    efusco,

I have not installed the maritime package on my prius nor do I have room for fishing poles.

Please don't ever let it come across that I am bragging. I am sorry to frustrate those of you that don't have such a good route like I do. With the right route; everybody would have insane FE. I just want to prove that I can beat the EPA, day in and day out.

Stand by for the picture tonight. . . .

yeah, yeah, yeah, my fuel light caught me by surprise yesterday on the way into work. We had almost 600 miles on the tank (no bad for the mountains in winter) but we usually fill it up with at least 2 blips to spare. The only problem, I fill up now about every two weeks, so i really dont think about it very much. Actually, I dont think about even noticing the gas gague, so when it beeped and started blinking, it caught me off guard, and all i could think of were the stories of people running out of gas in 7 miles after the blinking blip. I was just pulling out on the four lane and 20 miles to the nearest gas station. I made it in, but not without a stressful trip. I sure will try to notice the gas gage from now on!!!

(oh yeah, and nice tank there, I doubt I'll ever come close to a 700 miler!)

Stupidity to some; a game for me:

Notice the results of pulsing and then having to stop for a couple of red lights in succession between 15 and 20 minutes. Between 5 and 10 minutes I made a quick jump on the freeway to add 7 extra miles to push me over 800 miles.

RangerDavid: I have gone as far as 75 miles on the blinking light. I was getting around 75 miles to the gallon. I do hear of stories of people running out after 15 or so miles. Doesn't the blinking light mean you still have 12-14% of the tank left?

I will <strike>brag again</strike> I mean report in at the end of next month. :D

Are you tired of this or do I have to go to 900 miles?

Part of me says, "I don't want to hear it!" But a bigger part says, "Keep going!" You're showing what's possible and, though most won't get your numbers, you inspire others to aim high. Aim for the eagle, bag the pheasant, and don't eat crow!

    go for 900!! go for 900!! :p

just give a disclaimer, that 99% of people will not make it that far on a blinking pip... and sole responsibility for running your tail out of gas lies with the driver... so we don't get all sorts more complaints about the guess gauge...

    "...but, but, VABeach did it!"

Why are people running out of gas 15 miles after the fuel gauge starts blinking? I filled up tonight right after the blinking started and it took 8 gallons. There was still about 3 gallons left in the tank when I pulled into the station.

I have run out of gas within 15 miles (probably 10) after it started blinking. However, I was on an upgrade at the time it went into EV mode and gradually came to a stop. There had been at least one previous time I had gone at least 30 miles after it started blinking without running out of gas. That was why I wasn't worried about running out of gas when I knew the next station was within 15 miles of when it started blinking. I was suckered.

That is totally awesome! You've earned the bragging rights as far as I'm concerned.

There's just too many hills here to see that kind of mileage. What's your route. I used to live in VA beach and I know it's very flat. That's got to help a lot, but what about the traffic? Are you commuting late night?

That's assuming the tank actually was holding its max or that you filled it up to the max. With the bladder, thats not always the case.

Does anyone want to see my tank average of 32.8? :p

But I think it'll get up to my normal average of 44 before tank end...
