My First Prius

    Welcome My first Prius my first post
    Hello, I'm just buying my Prius. After many years I bid farewell to Volvo and welcome Toyota. I have a very limited budget.
    I chose the Prius 2 model. I have a vin number or someone could check
    History and see if it is ok. Maybe someone can check the service record.I do not know if the price is adequate but I have to pay $ 7900 2012 Prius II 109000 miles. The Prius is lovely the only objections to a slight refraction on the rear bumper and slightly yellowing front lamps. When driving quietly and pleasantly. Average fuel consumption on the computer is over 50 miles with a gallon. Please tell me if this is a good choice.

    you can sign up at toyota owners website and plug in the vin for a record of all dealer service. that price seems awfully low, so i would proceed with caution.
    you may want to contact todd @TampaPrius.com for some helpful local advice. he deals in used prius, is a member here, and a great guy. all the best!(y)

    Thank you very much. I did not know that you could check everything in Toyota with the vin number.
    Everything I checked looks ok.

    This comes up here often.

    It is my opinion, shared by a few others, that those on a "very limited budget" would likely be better off with small car with a conventional gas engine. Some of them get very good gas mileage too.

    For the $7900 quoted, you could get a new or almost new Kia, Hyundai or maybe even a Corolla.

    A bare bones new KIA Rio manual starts at 14 thousand.. Pretty big difference.

    That doesn't invalidate the concept. I DID say "or almost new".

    For anyone shopping on a really tight budget, try a Google search for "New cars under 10000".......or maybe "used cars under 8000".
    That should provide some ideas.

    Prius is very reliable and cheap to operate. You are better off on a limited budget. Only expensive this is the EV battery that will go out between 10K-200K miles. You can get a refurbished installed for under 1K and that will give you another 70K-80K miles. You will save more on gas to offset any benefits of owning similar priced Kia or other non hybrid.

    LOTS of personal opinions here .......which would be hard to back up with facts.

    No reports of HV batteries failing at 10,000 miles.....and if they did it would be warranty.

    Also no reports of ANY refurbished batteries costing $1000 or less lasting anywhere near 70K additional miles.

    AND if you actually do that math, it takes a LONG time and/or a lot of miles for gas price savings to offset a purchase price difference between a vehicle that gets 35 MPG versus one that gets 45.

    Used Prii can be a good value. But they are not for everybody.

    The car goes like new.
    I add tools to my collection.
    1) MINI VCI Interface FOR TOYOTA TIS Techstream J2534 aliexpress $ 11.69
    2) Oil Filter Aluminum Cup Wrench for Toyota Prius ebay $ 4.83
    and starter pack
    Wiper Blade DENSO EVB26 + DENSO EVB19 and
    Oil Filter DENSO 1503024 with delivery from Rockauto $ 15.22
    800108C TYC - Cabin Air Filter Ebay $ 8.65
    I'm waiting for fluid to gear and engine oil and information on board for replacement. Then I'm going to replace the oil in the engine air filters and fluid in the transmission.
    I have to say that the quality and price of the parts is better than when I bought the parts for the previous Volvo
    I wanted to thank once again for the hints.

    Congrats on the "new to you" buggy! I'm not sure which part of Tampa you're in, but next time you need oil or filters, you might call Sun Toyota if they aren't too far away. I don't know if it was an unadvertised special or what, but I seem to remember paying much much less than that for the filter. Oil was surprisingly low, too. I should dig up those receipts one of these days.
