Perhaps Panasonic might source the batteries?

All it needs now is multiple stall nationwide charging infrastructure

I'm guessing it'll probably be whoever they source the batteries for the energi PHEV versions of their cars. Not sure who that is.

Ford has officially released some details. I came across them at CleanMPG.
A Tesla Killer Enters the Fray – It is Called Ford Mustang Mach-E | CleanMPG

    Some quick points.
    • Available end of 2020 as a 2021MY.
    • Two battery sizes with RWD and AWD options.
    • RWD long range will have at least 300 miles.
    • Has a front trunk and uses phone for key.
    • Another Teslaesque thing is the navigation will have up to date charger locations.
    • DC fast charging will be handled through a FordPass network. Includes Electrify America so far.
    • Two performance trims targeting Tesla acceleration.

Iirc the auto show will be running just down the road from us & it might be worth checking out. The local Tesla Club has been pushing free ticket so we'll see.
I do like how Ford copied the Model S / X portrait Mongo size screen.

Almost makes me miss it. Even some of the new pickups are going this route.

it's almost like some manufacturers are paying attention to a certain unnamed electric car startup

but will they have success in the 'me too' category?

Ford is using LG. The 2170 cells that panasonic makes are maxed out for tesla right now, and would be a risk for ford. The panasonic batteries in the energi phev are too expensive (they are targeted for air cooling meaning they need a more expensive chemistry. LG is a good choice. LG batteries are being proven in the bolt.

    They are using electrify america

I hope that with more vehicles the electrify america network will improve.

The big advantage this will have over the tesla model Y (which is what this appears to be targetting and its a big market) is it will still get a federal tax credit in the US market while the tesla is expired. I'm hopefull that ford's experience with suvs will make this a good selling car. Wouldn't it be great if the mach E and model Y combined to sell 500,000 vehicles a year?

I was actually looking at it as a Model Y competitor that still has tax credits and an actual dealer support network, until I found out it doesn't have a 7-seat option like the Model Y does.

the 44k one doesn't look too bad, but i didn't look at what is missing from the higher end models.

still, i suspect i'd rather have a model y with tesla tech/knowledge/experience plus the charging network

Model Y will likely be more 5+2 seating. I am surprised it is even offering a third row.

They are definitely only kiddie-size sized ... even the X's 3rd row can't handle the typically overweight person, or 6'er+.
I love the article calling it the Tesla killer. Makes one wonder why they're not satisfied with just "competitor" .... safer advertising means no one's going to get let down either way. As for adding Electrify America to Ford's stable of chargers (actually its everyone's betwork), you'd be hard-pressed to find any more than two or three next to each other around the nation. Our local Walmart is commissioning two of them right now. Anyone having their 'druthers, would rather wait for 1 of 20 to open up for availability than one of two. Then there's the other invariable variability - where Electrify America tends to put their units relatively close to the front of storefronts, where the way-too plentiful 'inconsiderates' are more than glad to ICE these most favorable spots. That's ot the scenario one wants to find while traveling interstate.

Doesn't matter for me. I have a ton of people in my family who are under 5'2".

It's quite clear that there is no space to put enough seats for 7 regular size adults in the Modely.

Tesla is announcing the 7-seat configuration because it correctly assume it is likely to attract additional attention. If the history of the $35K TM3 is anything to go by, the "7-seater" won't be available until after the initial wave of demand has been met. and it will be 5+2 and not a 7 seater, and not $3K above the base price by $5++K. And you'd only be able to order it through an obscure and cumbersome process, and only for a few weeks until tEfLON discontinues it. Simply because there is not enough space for 7 adults in the Modely :)

There are no "regular size adults" in my family. I'm 5'6" and I'm the tallest person in my entire extended family.

be very glad. It ain't easy trying to find 34"x36" inseam slacks. You end up defaulting to cargo shorts & then you're stuck in Southern California year round where it stays warm enough to wear cargo shorts.

My mom is 4'9" and wears women's 3 1/2 shoes. It's hard for her to find clothes and shoes.

For reference, my very small 11 year old daughter wears women's size 6 shoes.

Beside the fact that there is a hefty US population invested in US ole skool brands. How else would JD Power be able to assemble 2k survey respondents that rate Chevy as the best service/satisfaction in the US,
sat is factory as they say in the Motor City.
while claiming they Chevy have repaid the government bailout since circa 2017.
