Multiple beeping when trying to open driver door

    Whenever I enter my prius the car is locked and the alarm is set, and I will grab the handle to unlock and deactivate the alarm. However, every couple weeks I'll grab the handle and it will beep like it's de-activating the car but will beep anywhere from 6 to an indefinitely number of times and won't unlock my door (it unlocks all the others). Anyone ever experience this? Any know if this is a known problem?

    Hi Ben,

    carwash or rain water will get in the way of the sensor and will give false readings (not always but it did happen to me once)... I don't know if this is your issue, but it definately sounds like a SENSOR issue with the SKS, especially if dry.

    If it's an aftermarket alarm system (even if dealer-installed), I'll bet dollars to doughnuts the problem lies there.

    OK - thanks guys. I don't have an after-market alarm--it's just the standard one that came with my '04 Prius. A sensor issue sounds about right because it seems to explain the repeated beeping and it's failure to unlock that specific door. I guess it's something I'll have to take it to the dealer for.

    Something that happened to me was that I keep my key in my pocket. And the same thing happened. What I believe happened was that the "lock" button on the key was hitting against something in my pocket, so it kept beeping and locking the door. I just took the key out of my pocket and it worked just fine.

    lol - Yikes that may also be what's happening. I'll watch for that as well next time it happens.
