Note hybrid comments and what appears to be a side-impact tested Prius in the video launch portion.

Why does a family sedan need 255 horsepower again?

"With an electric motor assisting the V-6 gasoline engine, Champion gave the hybrid high marks for fuel economy at 25 miles per gallon."

Wth???? This guy is impressed with 25 MPG??? What would he say about the Prius, that it's not possible to have a very roomy, very capable, very reliable family sedan that gets 50 MPG??? Wow, that makes me wonder. And I've lost all faith in Honda. The Ridgeline is an ugly truck, and now an Accord hybrid that gets LESS mileage than a completely capable 4-cylinder Accord (my brother's 2002 4 cylinder Accord consistently gets 30 MPG and he's a lead foot). I've no idea how Honda will sell any of these cars. Their 'hybrid' tech is so...substandard, weak. Yes, the question needs to be asked and asked again...why do we need 255 horses? Love my Prius...even more now!

i read the article and it almost seems that CR is hesistant to give the Prius any more accolades since the Prius is one of the rare models ive seen that had 2 or more feature stories on it in less than a year.

in just over a year, the current model Prius has become one of the most decorated models ever. CR still had to mention that the Prius won another award being #1 in customer satisfaction survey.

Like, say, in a 1998 Civic with 1 passenger and luggage for a week? We somehow managed to survive. Horsepower over 200 (I'm being generous here) is absolutely not required unless you're hauling cargo or hauling nice person.

That Civic has 106hp. Accelerates just fine, gets up to speed with traffic without any problem whatsoever. That's what on-ramps are for. A bigger car like the Accord, sure, needs a little more power. More than twice the power? Please.

We here in Chicago are no strangers to high speed interstates. My Prius works just fine and manages intercity traffic lane changes, parking and overall navigating city traffic with a breeze. Especially with the tight turning radius. Plus all the car attendents just love to park it.

Regarding Honda and its hybrid issues. I love Honda products. They're much more fun to drive, even vs Toyota, handle great and have top notch quality. Atleast they are being inventive regarding new technology cars. GM, DC and Ford should take note.

With regard to how much horsepower is needed and MPG. With gas prices continuing to climb ($80/barrel oil anyone?) and increasing interest rates, people will loose disposable net income and be forced into more fuel efficient cars, furnaces and air conditioners. We respond to self interest. So I say increase the tax rate on gas big time and consumers will respond. Governmental fiscal policy (yes, that does exist) can have a positive effect, it just requires leadership (from both sides).

    Patrick,
I'm 15 and I weigh only 100 lbs. I'm small. I'm not anorexic or anything, I just have a very high metabolism. I'm about 5'4 and will be 6', because the endocrineologist said so. And also my older brother ( 18 ) is like 6'2 , and I'm a clone of him.

Thank God that wasn’t me I was referring to.

If it were, I’d ship the family off on a vacation to some semi-deserted tropical island and play Survivor for 6 months to a year. The wife and I are both weight/height proportionate and no kids - so it's no Survivor vacation for us.

That's not a bad idea. In sickening post-apocalyptic sci-fi kinda way. Mind if I use that in a story?

    IN A WORLD...

Where fast food corporations are more powerful than governments...

Where all the oil is gone...

One man must stand up and use everything he has...

    Only the obese survive!!
