Just wondering what kind of oil is everybody using in there pruis?I'm using mobil 1 5w30 which i think is the best oil out there.
And with that being said how many miles do any of you think the ice can go before being overhauled?

My oil analysis guy says he's seeing consistently superior results from NZ series engines, so I think in typical Toyota fashion, your engine will be going strong long after you tire of owing the car.

Which type of M1 5w-30? Standard flavor, Extended Performance, or T&SUV? M1 is without question good stuff, but the current SM version of the Standard 5w-30 is indicating slightly more valve train wear than some other similar products, though probably not enough to meaningfully reduce engine life in a passenger car. Especially since our sump capacity is so small, I'd use EP or TSUV and pay the slightly higher cost.

I can't yet tell you what I'm using, since I haven't settled in on one yet. I'm going to run a couple different choices, and do oil analysis at the end of select runs to see which seems to work best for me.

My husband is a mechanic....and he insists on Mobil 1.....that is what I'm running. Works fabulous...and will not switch to conventional oil.

I do 5,000-mile changes with Mobil1, but after I hit 100,000 and the car is out of warranty I'll probably switch to 10,000-mile changes (with a 5,000-mile filter change).

I have changed the oil in Prius once at 5,000 miles (I think it was at 6,800 today). This is about where I have always changed oil in my cars for the last 25 years. I don't use synthetics in my car or my boat. Unless you can really stretch the drain interval (which most people won't under warranty) I don't think syns are worth the price difference. And I simply don't trust them in the boat.

My last three cars went well past 100,000 with no problems at all. They all had other age and mileage related issues, but no internal engine problems. My 1995 Explorer oil changes were almost all done by "Oil Changers" at 4,000 to 6,000 miles. The transfer case failed at 205,000 miles but the engine didn't leak a drop or burn any oil, and my gas mileage was as good as it ever right up to when I got rid of the truck.

I use Mobil 1 EP. I have had oil analysis done at 47K and 67K.
one change at 12K miles and one at 10K miles change intervals.
Both oils where fine and still have TBN of new dino oil...

So I will continue going about 10K miles or so between changes.. which is about 3 months for me..

    Enjoy!!
