I have a set of 16x6.5 Motegi Traklites w/50mm offset in storage. I used these briefly on my '06 Corolla XRS. Even though the offset wasn't ideal for that application (tires were no longer flush but <20mm inside the wheel well), they worked well w/no problems.

I was planning on using them w/either 205-55-16's or 205-60-16's on a used Gen II or Gen III Prius, which I hope to purchase when I return from deployment next year (Lord willing!).

Will this wheel offset/tire combination fit? Or should I shelve the idea completely & look for other forged aftermarket wheels?

My goals are improved performance & appearance:
    1. lower rotating mass (Motegi weigh only 12.3lbs/wheel)
    2. better grip (205 tire is 10mm wider than oem)
    3. don't want to take too big an aerodynamic hit (compared to oem wheelcovers)

    Thanks in advance.

They should fit. The OE 15" wheel has a 45mm offset and the OE 17x7 wheel has a 50mm offset. The Performance Plus Package 17x7 wheel has a 43mm offset.

The wider tire may adversely affect mpg but keeping the wheel tucked in the wheel well will help reduce some of the negative impact. I doubt you will gain mpg but you probably won't lose much either as long as you choose the right tire. I'd suggest the Michelin Energy Saver A/S for that size wheel.
