The NYTimes car reviewer says it best about the 2007 Dodge Ram SRT10: "This truck could be more politically incorrect only if it ran on whale oil and panda tears."[IMG]

Truly one of the great sentences in the history of auto journalism, by Ezra Dyer, in describing a 510 horsepower pickup that got between 7-8 miles per gallon during his test drive. Not at typo.

So even with its monstrous 34 gallon tank, that means you be spending $100 a week just to commute 25 miles each way.

It's fast, roomy, and call haul a team of asses (or horses), but do we really need another $50,000 monster truck when sales of big rigs is dying? This thing makes the Hummer seem like a car that Sierra Club members would drive.

Check out the full review here.

Oh, good. So whatever gas I saved in my Prius, I can burn it off with the Dodge Ram.

As one of my co-workers put it (in a half-joking way that made me ever, ever so sad):

"Great, now that you drive a Prius you make up the difference for my SUV and I don't have to feel bad about it anymore."

And this mentality is the saddest thing of all. But I fear so typically American. I can be wasteful because I'm canceled out by some liberal tree-hugger recycling and driving a Prius.

Tell me about it. I have the GMC equivilent to that SRT/10 and I am sad everytime I drive it to the racetrack. I used more gas driving to the Bay Area in one trip than I would in a month driving my Prius. *cries*

It is pretty amazing to see America plunging headlong into the Abyss. We will be known for nothing but consumerism and ill placed pride.

I was reading a letter from a teen forum and the girl wanted to learn French as well as Spanish. She was getting some flack and wanted input. One answer stated it very simply...what do you call an individual that speaks one language. The answer was "an American".

We talk about buying American but America fails to provide anything viable......let's all go down to Walmart now and buy us some good crap that also does not get made in America....Maybe that girl should be learning Chinese!

"One advantage of the Ram’s pavement-crushing weight and cinder-block aerodynamics is that those are two identifying characteristics of a truck, and trucks are not subject to the federal gas-guzzler tax. So while the Viper and its 20 m.p.g. highway rating get hit with the guzzler label, a Ram SRT10 with the same engine but much worse fuel economy does not. But nobody ever said life was fair for Viper owners."

    jeez....

also, an SLR will empty its 19 (imperial) gallon tank in 21 minutes at top speed.

There used to be a really good joke that went:

What second language should you learn? If you're a pessimist, learn Russian. If you're an optimist....learn Chinese.

Dodge dealers have no problem selling THIS truck. They produce it in such small numbers it has minimal effect.

Godiva, there is no GMC equal to this truck, just an attempt at it. :)

Piffle. You honestly think that's all America will be remembered for? I'm reminded of the scene from /iThe life of Brian/i in which the Romans were taken to task:
All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

What do you call someone who looks to the internet for advice on what to do with their life? Lame.

And my compliments for blaming it all on Walmart. Very insightful.

I did not interpret "blame" towards Walmart in that post - just its use as a market reflecting the spectrum of goods available. If you sling criticism make sure it is aimed squarely at what you critisize!

It will be remembered for lots of good things but also many wrong ideals, hatred and resource plundering. One only has to look back 150yrs to see the aforementioned problems. :( We have taken numerous steps in the right direction but it is usually after screwing up pretty bad. Thats generally human nature though.

The Walmart thing didn't seem to be used to single out just that company. I took it to mean corporate America and the fascist system it emulates. :)

Must be some new definition of fascism I'm not familiar with. Does it mean "not a hippie commune"?

If you cannot see our government is run by corporations then maybe you should do a lil more research on the subject.

Here is a fun one that should really tick some peope off but is backed by planty of evidence *shrug*

    Old American Century.org

I was nice and gave you information. Should you choose to attack with hippy labeling I'll be forced to defend my views and I highly doubt you'll be able to refute the above mentioned "fascist government comment" :)

Who better than Mussolini would know?

Interesting site. However, you said, "I took it to mean corporate America and the fascist system it emulates." I thought you were talking about American corporations which no one will confuse with hippie communes, but are hardly fascist organizations. Apparently, you meant "the American government which is run by corporations." -- a discussion for another time.

Yeah :) If you have contrary thoughts though I'd love to hear em via PM or something if you wish and when you have time. Not to argue the point but see how others are viewing current trends :)
