Hi all, My car was at the dealership where the timing chain cover gasket was replaced, and the water pump was replaced. While under the car checking for leaks, I found a screw lying on top of the front suspension cross member. It looks like the technician was using that spot as a holding place for bolts while working on the car. It’s a 10mm hex head screw with washer. This screw does appear elsewhere on the car. So does anyone know where this style of screw is used during the process of removing the timing chain cover and water pump? Thanks.
I would agree that the technician probably left it there. The question is whether it was replaced or left out. The dealer should recheck the work.
Use a mirror to help you to inspect the water pump bolts and the front engine cover bolts. You might see a hole where the bolt should go. Hopefully though, the tech would have replaced the bolt with another from the parts dept stock, after s/he lost it.
Thanks both. Both of you are correct. I went back to the dealer and the technician did remember that he lost a screw while putting the car together. He used compressed air to try to dislodge it but in the end found another screw of the same type. This screw happens to be used to hold down the brake reservoir bracket to the chassis.
