2)Nu-Shield sold some specifically for the Prius for a while, but there are technical problems making them work and not cause damage to the screen. IOW, the regular 'tacky' kind used on PDAs won't work and it required a special film.

They may offer them again and it is worth sending the company an e-mail about it in case they do. But basicly they can't justify the cost of materials for the limited market and only make them when they have samples of the product they use.

Seems odd that they get this other product in sample sizes for something, yet THAT something plus our something isn't worth buying in larger lots.

Was there any clue as to what the good protectant is, in case we might come across it in a non-sample size elsewhere?...

By name? no. It is a firm but flexible film. It has to be placed just so on the MFD...one side is smooth and one is textured.

I think they get samples occ. b/c the manufacturer of the product wants them to buy it. But to buy it they have to buy a huge pallate of the stuff.

K......sorry bout the sig stuff....the image has been removed....!

I will try using the screen protectors we have for our hand-helds and see if they work.....(although they are much smaller and I may have to use a few to cover the screen)....

    I'll post results!

I don't think you should do that! Apparently it can permanantly damage the MFD...that's why NuShield didn't use that type. Your call....I think a new MFD starts at around $1000

I guess I should have posted over here instead of the Apperance Mods forum. Here's a screen protector I saw on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...mMakeTrack=true

And here's the email response I got from the seller when I asked for more details:

These screens are specifically designed to protect and reduce glare, it made out of a special micro thin P.E.T with silicon coated, which means it won't leave residue or damage your screen. It does not interfere with the touch screen technologies. It's being made under extensive research and development, cut from precision cutter using data from the manufacturer. Basically just peel and apply.

Well, why not give it a try and send us a report. If it's a good product and doesn't do any harm and works well maybe Danny can set up a group buy.

In fact, it might be worth contacting the seller to see if he'd be willing to send you a sample for free for you to post a review in a few weeks here on PriusChat as an 'in' to a group buy/commercial sponsorship with PriusChat. Can't promise he/she'll do it, of course, but if they have any business sense at all the world's largest Prius site ought to have some appeal to someone selling a product such as this.

My wife used Saranwarp, worked great! for the first 10-20 minutes, after that it sort of collapses. Without using tape I couldn't figure out how to make stay put. Local computer stores were of no help.

I just put mine on. Cost with shipping was $15.48 using the "Buy it Now" option.

I agree with bshef. Very thin, peel and stick, anti-glare, matte finish. The touch screen is unaffected. My main concerns will be how several hot days in the sun and time will affect the adhesive and how easily it will peel off if/when the time comes to replace it.

Installation instructions says to peel 1/2" of the backing along one edge, align with the edge of the screen and use a straight edge like a credit card to push down on the protector while peeling off the rest of the backing. Though starting from the side looks like it will be easier I decided to start with the top down for better alignment. The fit was near perfect with just a tiny bit of each corner tucking under the screen bezel.

One other thing you might want to have is a can of compressed air to blow off any little bits of lint before application.
