"57 mpg" is in larger Imperial gallons. 4.9 l per 100 km = 48.0029762 miles per US gallon and that's on inflated European test cycles.

Per Select a search : Directgov - Car fuel data, CO2 and vehicle tax tools, the 3rd gen Prius gets 72.4 miles per Imperial gallon combined on their cycle. 72.4 miles per Imperial gallon = 60.285586 miles per US gallon.

The EU cycle ratings have typically not been inflated for diesels from what I've seen.

In addition, even at 48 mpg US, with 0-100 km at 6.7 seconds, it's still a true sports car and I can't think of any true sports cars that get 48 mpg.

...and higher energy content diesel fuel. Factor in another 82.6% reduction if you want to compensate for that. Or alternatively, factor in the price difference.

Just paid 1,34 per liter of diesel on a trip versus 1,45 /l for petrol. What was your point re cheaper diesel in the markets where this car will be offered?
