I've been studying up on how fuel efficiency is measured in metric vs. U.S. (English) and it is interesting to see the difference.

In the U.S., fuel efficiency is measured in how far a car can go (miles) on a fixed amount of fuel ( 1 Gallon). Miles per gallon or MPG

In most of the rest of the world, it is the reverse. How much fuel (liters) is used in a fixed distance (100 kilometers). Liters / 100 kilometers or L/100km.

While this may not be news to most of the world, in the U.S., it may as well be quantum physics.

An easy way to convert without using one's mind is to use a little known feature of Google. It converts anything into anything else.

Just type in, for example, 4 liters/100km in miles per gallon for an instaneous PRIUS answer. Or, 50 mpg in l/100km. It even does all currencies of the world, and all measures, distance, volume, linear measurements, etc., etc.

It's a lot of fun. I thought it was pretty cool.

Just some thoughts that may be of interest to everyone, especially PRIUS owners.

Japan and SE Asia measure in km/L.
