Mazda retrofits CarPlay and Android Auto - your move, Toyota.

Doesn't toyota own Mazda or has a part of Mazda. And that's why the Yaris models essentially the same as the other Mazda ? At least that's what I've been told and if that's true then it should be 100 percent possible.
C'mon Toyota
I would pay like 1000 dollars extra for this feature since I don't want to lose the hybrid screens on the Prius prime

 

Our son mentioned he just got this on his (Mazda) CX-5. I'm clueless about such stuff.

Just for a little topic conflation: Mazda TPMS sensors are pretty much self-introducing, with just a bit of driving the car will for example recognize a swap to (tpms equiped) snow tires.

 

toyota can hardly keep up with their recalls, never mind update old products

Not cheap, but I would pay $399 to upgrade my Prime to support Android Auto and Carplay. I really hate the Entune useless system.

 

Interesting. Mazda is investing in the value of used Mazdas. I sure can't say that's wrong, but I'm curious to see how they make it work for them.

 

I paid $166 for the kit off eBay (Mazda parts) for my 16 Miata, and plan on doing it in about a week.

 

Toyota has a "technology partnership" with Mazda. See this.

 

If they share "technology" shouldn't they be able to tell each other how to retrofit eaach others vehicles

 

My reading of the article is they are exchanging technologies for what should be a vehicle's primary function - transporting from one place to another. A vehicle, contrary to popular opinion, is not an entertainment center. Toyota has already added CarPlay to its newer vehicles. I remember reading that they did not want to license Android Auto because Google required access to too much user data.

 

Took my prime in for service and asked the advisor if Toyota would upgrade the infotainment system since Mazda did it. He said Toyota had a meeting recently to discuss about upgrading Prime's entertainment systems within the next 2 months. I asked if that includes Prime from previous years and he said yes. I highly doubt it tho.

There are a lot fewer Mazdas out there. The cost of retrofitting is considerably lower vs. a much larger fleet.

I've been saying for years that non-upgradeable infotainment systems were going to wind up punching huge holes in the resale value of relatively young cars. Now it looks like Mazda is out to prove it.

 

Ford has retrofit their 2016-2017 sync units. Simply done with a new USB connection and update to the software.

Somebody is gonna figure it out and beat Toyota to the punch. Why wouldn't they just do it like Ford has?

What I mean is, A retrofit for apple carplay would be simple. Why wouldn't Toyota take the time to invest in it and sell it to us rather than let someone else sell it as a hack?
