Best summary of this short article:
"I found that if you made men more insecure about their masculinity, they displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq war more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle," said Willer.

What are you trying to say, huh? You wanna fight about it? I'm not gay!! I'm just glad that the American Marines have used the war in Iraq to introduce the Middle East to American Hummers! I'm not insecure!!

Ah screw it, I'm gonna go to the local dive bar, order a Budweiser, drink my paycheck and complain that the rich are stealing my money.

My wife has occassionally introduced me as her gay husband. Or as I respond, "it's pronounced Me-tro-sex-u-al".

When the "masculine" men ask how I can stand to drive such a small car with such puny acceleration that sits so low to the ground I use one of two responses depending on the person and any witnesses:

    1) There is no part of my life or body for which I feel the need to compensate with exterior fascades.

    2) I could try to explain it but I fear I would only be wasting your time.

Actually, there is a LOT of truth to that statement.

I do love the fruity drinks. Let's face it, a frozen strawberry margarita sure beats "scotch on the rocks" any day.

I recently realized a problem with hanging out with gay men. I had lunch the other day with a buddy from work who is gay. This woman walked in who had, well, jaw-dropping physique, and she was advertising it. Without thinking about it, I nodded to my buddy, "Dude, did you SEE that?" He just looked at me blankly.

I know it's obvious on this forum, but isn't supporting the war mean not supporting the USA oil-drug habit by buying SUVs?

Havent you seen the many "W" stickers on large SUVs?? I think that the "masculine" men referenced don't think about how one relates to the other...

I realize this is all tongue in cheek designed to elicit a response from our more rightward tilting participants, but consider:

-this site appears to be the Enquirer of science news. Where's the reference to swiss scientists? I'm all in favor of guilty pleasures but I wouldn't admit to indulging in them online.

-there appears to be no link to the research, but I'll bet its not peer reviewed. I'm no social scientist, but just from reading the synopsis provided, my conclusion is that Cornell undergraduates are deeply in need of some counselling.

    -oh, never mind...

RonH, I'm trained to seek out and rip to shreds poorly put together research papers....

and this wasn't even a paper.

Hello, methods, data analysis, conclusions, discussion?

Sounds like it was partially digested for the slightly-below-average guy....

    I’m sooooo confused!!!

I am a Republican, have gay friends, support the war in Iraq, drive a Prius, and at this very moment am sucking on a margarita.

The thing that confuses me is . . . how is it that they “made men more insecure about their masculinity . . .†????

(Of course that is a wide open target for women to respond with comments like, “you just point and laugh.â€)

(Thread Hijack) Speaking of Margaritas, anyone know of a good tequila? I'd prefer something exquisite (in quality, not price). I'm tired of the Cuervo and Sauza; I've also heard something about 100% Agave being the way to go. Is Anejo (Aging in Oak) work well for Tequila like Bourbon? What color is good? (Blue Agave?)

I'm looking for "bang for the buck" information; at what point does the Tequila stop getting better and you start paying for prestige only?

Any info appreciated, gay, straight, republican, democrat, male, female. However, gin drinkers need not reply; I cannot tell the stuff from turpentine, and anyone who will drink that stuff will drink anything.

From what I've seen and heard, in Mexico the only people doing tequilla poppers are American college students.

I bought a $35 bottle of tequilla once and my friends and I sat around sipping it on the rocks. This stuff was smooth. There was absolutely no comparison to any cheaper tequilla. I have since bought a couple more bottles and I have found that you get what you pay for. Certainly not "prestige only" prices.
