    March of the hybrids

Hybrid cars aren't just zipping past SUVs in the carpool lane -- their popularity is, too.

Over the next five years, drivers will increasingly ditch gas-guzzling SUVs and expensive luxury cars, opting instead for hybrids -- like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic -- and fuel-efficient, low-cost vehicles, according to an annual global survey of 140 automotive executives conducted by KPMG, an audit, tax and advisory firm.

The trend toward more hybrids is great. However, the new Toyota RAV4 is NOT a hybrid, comes as a 6-cylinder and earns poor fuel economy. Come on Toyota, get a clue. There are many of us out there who admire the RAV4 (and the RAV4 EV).

I am soooooo onboard with all that. And glad we got our cars before the Katrina-related petrol situation got our attention.
