No. Toyota has tremendous potential. But their leadership lacks the vision to thrive in the coming massive transformation of the auto industry. Hundreds of thousands of people will be affected by their incompetence.

It's the end of the world as we know it. At least I didn't pay $1000 for a vaporware car.

This is typical abuse of math found in trolls and some automotive writers:
    • Using percentage with no reference to the raw numbers - percentages have utility but omission of the raw numbers, in this case the specific Prius models, suggests someone trying to hide the truth.
    • "Cherry picking" the dates - is another technique where someone is trying to lie by choosing a specific starting point, say the 1998 El Nino year, as the 'low temperature' side of a range. Such false claims evaporate when using the raw data.
    • Hiding the Prius numbers - using a summary instead of the specific Prius numbers. Thus one model, say the Prius Plug-In that is going through a model change, has a magnified effect.
    • Hiding the source - "Cherry picking" only works by falsely claiming to have posted the original data instead of including a cite of the source.
Now we don't have Jeff Cobb's excellent dashboard report for March but the page not posted by the original poster includes the specific Prius sales numbers: Toyota Motor Sales Reports March 2016 Sales | Corporate
    Prius model Mar 2016 sales
    1 Toyota Prius Sedan 8130
    2 Toyota Prius v (lowercase v) 1331
    3 Toyota Prius c 2607
    4 Toyota Prius Phv 7
    5 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid 3073

This is from the second page of the source material that was not included.

Now we don't have the data for all efficient cars but we can update last month's chart with the Prius specific models:
    • Non-Toyota models are copied from February since we don't have Jeff Cobb's excellent dashboard data for March. So I left the last known values for comparison.
    • Toyota hybrid models, not including the Camry Hybrid, were updated for the March 2016 data.
Within the narrow range of Toyota hybrids, we can clearly see:
    • Gen-4 Prius - clearly sales are increasing. Not yet to the end-of-year sales blow-outs in December but with a solid, positive slope as dealers build inventory versus the early adopters.
    • Rav-4 hybrid - excellent numbers, picking up on the recent SUV popularity, well done.
    • Prius c and Prius v - solid growth more likely reflecting the uptick in recent sales as customers can visit the dealers.
This is all we can report until Jeff Cobb's data comes out. The OP may be a math dummy who like Chicken Little, has set his hair on fire and running around shouting a false alarm. The alternate hypothesis suggests a candidate for my 'ignore user' list.

There's a wack of numbers currently on the front page of CleanMPG, various automakers. I was a little dismayed at the Honda Civic Hybrid numbers. :(

In next few months, I need to make a decision to sell one of these cars, both of which I own outright:
a 2011 Prius Three with only 33,900 miles excellent condition
a 2005 Accord sedan 4 cyl auto with 123,300 miles, good condition, 26 MPG combined

Prius is an oddball, not looking so good for keeping it.

I don't understand, why you'd want to sell the Prius. New car-itis?

I have to admit on paper and in video the tesla 3 is da bomb. After the roll out Toyota's vision seems relatively myopic. It might be time for someone to open a telsla3chat forum. :)

that's probably why prius sales are down. potential buyers are waiting until 2019 to get a Tesla.

Now now - just because Toyota couldn't deliver a plugin Gen II with Volt-like ev range nor a plugin with more than 4 seats - that's no reason to call it vaporware. After all - Toyota says no one's knocking on their door to even BUILD a plugin. So heck, in that light, they're being pretty darn gracious!
Must you keep talking about "them" ???

If I order a Tesla Model 3 today, I get it maybe in 2019. That assumes a reasonable case for factory production volume ramp up. I also get no federal tax credit by then. Have better acceleration via the 3, but range anxiety. And I didn't hear anything about 300 miles in the announcement. More like 210 IIRC.
