Every old classic is in that article, even the one where you can say "temperature between 1998 and 2007 actually decreased" by picking 1998 as your start point.

The writer seems to have HowStuffWorks expertise in a striking variety of topics. If you'd like to be a HowStuffWorks writer yourself, here's how.

Their FAQ says "You can see when each article was published (along with other citation information) by clicking the “citation and date” icon". That apparently only works if you want to let HowStuffWorks run JavaScript on your computer, but I temporarily did that and clicked and saw that the article is from November 2007.

Chap already pointed out how old that article is. Here is another indicator of it being seriously outdated:

"On the other side, two Russian] solar physicists made a $10,000 bet with a British climatologist that the Earth will actually cool in the next decade. These physicists believe that we are merely experiencing a temporary climate shift based on solar fluctuations, which will return to normal in the next few years. They're basing their bet on comparisons between global surface temperatures taken between 1998 and 2003 with ones that will be taken from 2012 to 2017 [source: Adam].

Those measurements over that full time period have been taken. The outcome of that bet has been declared. 5 years ago. The Russians lost. But didn't pay up:

Scientists bet $10K on the climate. Guess who lost

All global T databases known to me show each decade warmer than previous since about 1970. Satellite data started in 1978, and does not exactly measure surface T, but both versions of that also have this decadal pattern.

Things were different before 1970, and that is important to explore. T patterns were not consistent. But now we are more than 52 years into this, meaning that most humans alive have never had different environment.

A large group of distractions and dissimulations about this record have been told and retold for about half that long. Sad to say, those constitute the total knowledge of climatology for many people. How many I do not know. Perhaps fewer than I fear. But those voices are loud.
