Hello all i was driving today and the orange triangle started flashing, then a message on the screen appeared stating "Malfunction when parking, park in flat surface and apply parking break securely". I then contacted the dealership and was told to hold down the Power button. didnt due much, the car would not go into park. Anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like you need a new 12V battery.

I just had almost this same thing happen to me today during the last two miles of a three-hour drive on the highway. Same error message on the screen, but everything seems to function normally. Even test parked it on a hill, put it into drive and back to park several times with no issues but the error icon stays on the screen. I've put over 78K miles on it since it was brand new and this is the first time I've ever seen the big red triangle. How did you finally resolve it? I'll probably end up taking it in for a diagnostic tomorrow anyway. I hope it's as simple as resetting the code or a new 12V battery.

I had this issue and it didn't end well; I ended up getting rid of the car. Hope yours got resolved: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-technical-discussion/86449-my-2010-broken-down.html

I am starting to consider a Prius C but after the treatment I received from Toyota I am having second thoughts... I was going through old photos on my computer and saw the pics I took of the error message; thought I would google it to see if this has happened to others- found this post. Are more people having the issue now? I know many here thought I was being dramatic or didn't believe it really happened. It was so stressful

I remember your old threat. Was it a one time occurrence or did it come back later?

Jeff, I had the same problem, tried various techniques from online sources to solve it, but nothing worked. Took it to a Toyota dealer, and they discovered a loose battery terminal. They tightened it, and it only cost me $200. Yeah. $200 bucks to tighten a battery terminal. That included the "diagnostic fee."
