    Purchased a 2008 Prius 15 years ago, today it has 65,000 miles. I have done regular lof,(at local Toyota dealership) which includes tire rotation, changed out filters when needed and have purchased a couple of sets of tires. No other maintenance has been done. Just had the Toyota dealership put in a new 12 volt battery yesterday and they recommended the following services to be done.. brake fluid exchange, fuel induction service, dbelts all, transmission service and tpms lt. I asked them if they had noticed anything wrong and they said the reason for these recommendations was time. Can someone please tell me what you think I should do and what really needs to be done? Of course I will take it to the dealership to have them do it. Thank you

    Ok, thanks. Yes I've read the maintenance guide. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting money on unneeded maintenance . What about the d belts all? And do you know what TPMS LT is

    TPMS is tire pressure monitor light while you only should have had about one set of tires just the age dictates a few sets would have worn out just by sitting I guess It would have where I live in the south You may want to just order four new pacific branded TPMS sensors . The green Pacific logo are the ones that came factory on your car You can find them on eBay for like $34.99 for a set of four put them in the glove box next time you change your tires hand them to the tire changing guy he'll screw them on throw your old ones out and maybe if you're lucky they'll have the computer there that will turn the light off other than that don't worry with that light If you're not going to replace the TPMS sensors and you can justify the not $34 and all of that leave the light on no one really cares It just doesn't matter doesn't affect gas mileage or anything I have a few cars very similar to yours driving them is the best thing you can do for the car.. not trying to never use gas and letting it sit is the worst

    Please show us the estimate and how much they are charging. What is the hourly labor rate at this dealer?

    You really need to find a good independent mechanic. Ask around ask friends and family. The G2 Prius is a very common car.

    Its shocking to me the car still has its original Hybrid battery the big $$$$ battery in the trunk.

    They usually fail quite early with such low miles on the car. Mine did. the car needs to be driven daily to keep it charged. Extremely common on this site is all the Gen2's hybrid battery's have either failed or are about too. New one at the dealer is quite expensive
    You may have noticed the car spends alot of time with very low blue bars in its battery maybe no blue bars and then takes quite alot of driving to get some blue bars back in the battery. Its going to be struggling with low power and I bet your mileage is horrible.

    Hybrid battery failing is the #1 post on this site for the Gen 2 car. Its quite an expensive hassle to get that battery repaired or buy a new one.
    You have a very old car all of a sudden that has peculiar and very expensive issues as it gets older. If your not a guy with mechanical car repair skills it can be quite daunting and lots of people out there that will take advantage of you. Having your 15 year old car repaired at the dealer is nuts there labor rate is probably $250 an hour. The trick to a very old G2 is get out of that car when it becomes a $$ pit and move to a newer nicer much more comfortable and easier to repair car.

    If you were my sister i would tell you don't put a dime into the car sell it. Ask $7500 obo. It will go fast. Do not trade it in.

    15 years is a long time for these fluids. They do degrade some with age.

    I would do all fluids: change engine and inverter coolant (2 separate systems), brake fluid, transmission (just a drain and refill). Clean the throttle body. If the water pump belt has no cracked ribs- leave it alone.

    Okay here are the estimates. I know I should have asked if that included labor but I asked the service advisor how much it would cost me to do all of this and he said well it's on your sheet. So I would think he would say plus labor. ??

    Don't do any of that for the TPMS business deal with a tire store like I said by four new Pacific branded TPMS sensors with the green label you can see them on eBay That's the brand that came with your car Believe it and just have them on standby for when you change tires you slap those on the tire place will wave of wand around the car the light will go out all that kind of business The dealer has to stand there and punch in codes and all this manual stuff with tech stream. The rest of those service change the transmission fluid 354 that's highway robbery literally It's almost hysterical but then again I don't know where you are this could be California so who knows I would say find the reasonably confident backyard shade tree whatever you want to call it and go from there drive belts there's only one lordy mercy etc etc You can buy the drive belt for about $9 for a good gates one Not much to it. I wouldn't pay any of that money

    Brake fluid exchange No unless there's something going on with the brakes which is coming so don't mess with it yet 74,000 or some odd miles your brake fluid's not even broke in good. I'm at almost 300,000 on what I presumed to be the original fluid this car had nothing done to it during its ownership by the people except for oil changes some tires and that was it He said he had to do nothing else. I just put in brake fluid when I change the brake pump and reservoir within the last few months so now I have new dot 4 brake fluid. In this car and it's about 330,000 mi on it.

    brake fluid price looks decent. tranny service is way high. $150. - 200. would be better. but it really doesn't need doing at 65k.
    skip the induction.
    the tpms are your tire pressure monitors. are you getting a warning light?

    you should do the radiator and inverter coolant as well. it doesn't have to be done all at once, you can spread it out.
    double check on the labor. those prices look like it's included.

    That one’s especially nuts: basically they’re mugging you. $100 USD would be more than gate; it’s presumably a drain and fill, which is dead simple on a Prius.

    Just to clarify, "All" is just one $15 belt that turns the water pump. This job may take 10 mins if the mechanic can't find his tool in the first 5.
    Unsure about that job, are they replacing a single TMPS sensor for that price?
