Finally got the EPA metrics for the Ioniq 6:

    • Ioniq 6 efficiency, MPGe, matches Lucid top model
    • Model 3 is #3 in the ranking
Well done with on efficiency Hyundai! The city efficiency shows Tesla has a challenge but I already knew from my Model 3 that Tesla tires and wheels are heavier than needed. Only the Lucid has substantially better aerodynamic efficiency.

Now there are business issues with Lucid with purchase cost and availability. I'm pretty sure the Tesla has a purchase price advantage over the Hyundai especially when factoring in Federal subsidies. Also, not show in the Tesla SuperCharger advantage. What good is an EV if your CCS-1 charging network is terrible?

What is availability like on the Hyundais in America? Here, they're incredibly limited: I think we got about 500 Ioniq 5s last year, and supply doesn't seem to be getting any better.

I've seen three Ioniq 6s so far here: they only got launched here last month, I think.

Both the 5 and the 6 are fine-looking cars in their own very different ways. I'm not surprised the 6 is so much more efficient than the 5: its aerodynamics are spectacular.

On the principle of 'no good deed goes unpunished,' I shared my Ioniq post with the Ioniq forum. Only to have some snark replies by two who should have known better. The rest of the Ioniq forum members are sensible and have something to share pride with.

CCS will get better. Even Superchargers are getting in on it.
My small, local dealer has 15 Ioniq 6 and 34 Ioniq 5 listed on their site. Some are probably already sold, some in transit. They are listing them with a $1000 dealer discount.

I don't mind limiting tax kickbacks to US based companies, especially since we're paying 30,000 people in our armed forces a full time salary to be the ROK's security det.

Dollar for Dollar, the ROKs build probably the best cars on the planet, just like their neighbors used to before they all got rich and lazy and stopped having kids.
I'm not the least bit surprised that they're the new MPGe champs.

Wow. That's more than the whole of Australia gets in a month.
