Love our new Seaglass Pearl! (Leather; and What about a spare key?)

    Just took delivery yesterday of our new seaglass pearl Prius 2. We love it! Thanks to all of you for the advice; without this Priuschat forum, we would have gone to the dark side (Jetta TDI Sportwagen)

    The Seaglass color is amazing; very chameleon like. Subtle, and seems to shift between dark silver, metallic blue/green

    We got the dark gray interior with the plan to install matching leather upholstery. Looking at swatches, though, believe we will use misty gray (light colored) leather. There are ~3 suppliers (eg katzskins) making kits. I will install myself. Anyone interested in following the process?

    After prolonged headscratching, here's my anti-stranding spare key take away: Buy an ~$300 additional fob; remove metal key and hide under bumper; wrap spare fob in tinfoil and hide in trunk. Is there any better way to ensure we won't get stranded? Are spare fobs available in the aftermarket?

    I have a 2010. It came with two keyfobs/door keys. I have one and my wife has the other. I had to buy a third set as the hide a key. you have the right idea about how to hide the keys in two stages (yes, I have had to use it once to get back into the car - loaned the car to a family member who when back to Seattle and forgot to give me my key back!).

    A little off-topic, but we were also seriously considering the VW Jetta Sportwagen TDi as well. However, diesel costs more than premium gas here in Hawaii and I was scared away by some reliability questions with the TDi's high pressure fuel pump, especially after warranty expires. Also, the maintenance costs for a TDi seemed to be high compared to the Hybrid Synergy drive in the Prius.

    Still, it would've been a kick azz wagon though. ;)

    Thanks Tom for the key confirmation. Hate to spend $300 for antistranding insurance, but its probably worth it. And, I can see how the SKS fob could get misplaced pretty easily.

    Yes xlider, the Jetta TDI wagon drives 1000 times better than the Prius, IMHO. The Passat TDI is better yet.
    But, all the things you said. VW's are durable, but not particularly reliable, it seems. And, Diesel is way higher here too.
