Lost Audio

I had this exact same problem last year. Toyota said I needed a new radio. I got home and I unplugged the battery for half an hour. I am not sure what prompted me to do that. I plugged it in again and it worked, and has been fine for a year now, even working 24h on a drive from Toronto to Florida. Try this first before replacing the radio. I am not quite sure what the problem was, stuck relay, but I pray it works in your case.

 

I know my Prius is a different generation, but two years ago when temps started to drop, I lost my audio as well. Dealer spent half a day on it with no luck. I told them that I would check my schedule the following Monday to set up a full day for them to look at it. That Sunday it started working again and has not failed since.
Very weird.

 

Most likely, an intermittent solder connection; so don't be surprised if the radio stops working. Often an intermittent problem may be seasonal - will go away in hot weather and reappear in cold.

I have a 2003 Prius. For some time the audio system would periodically lose all power - nothing would work - no AM, FM, CD or Tape. They simply wouldn't power on. If you pushed the "Audio" button, the screen would read "Audio System Turned Off." (Or something to that effect.) Then, after driving for a period of time - 5-20 minutes, during which time there might occasionally be a short click in the speakers - as if the power were trying to come on - they would power on. This usually happened on very humid or rainy days.

For the last 2 weeks there has been nothing. I checked all fuses I could find today. Everything seems good. All other systems seem to be working fine. The CD player has power. All the buttons for the individual disks light up. I can get the Audio display to tell me that it's trying to play disk 1 or something, but the buttons controlling the audio system don't allow the signal to play sound. I tried disconnecting the battery for about 2 hours and reconnecting. Didn't do a thing.

Any ideas?
