Looking to buy used 2016 from dealer (what to look out for)

advice. don't buy from dealer. buy from a private party. this is my opinion

 

Definitely don't buy with that high of mileage. 106k miles in 3 years ... You can find better used Prii with way lower mileage.

if the price reflects the mileage, and you're comfortable with that, no problem.

prius like taxi work in canada, but i'm not sure about florida heat.

That is a plus, but it still has a lot of miles on it. Given that it was a lease, you wonder how the Honda dealer ended up with it. The original owner didn't lease it from the Honda dealer, so they must have bought it at auction at a low price where they think they can make a nice profit on resale. On a lease, there was certainly a mileage limit, so at the end of the lease the Uber person must have paid for the extra mileage.

Pretty worthless, in my opinion. You can check 60 points and miss all the important stuff on a car that your shop doesn't normally sell or service. If I were to consider buying that car, I would take it pre-sale to an independent mechanic that is experienced with that model and get their unbiased and more expert opinion. If problems are noted, use them as price negotiations.

As indicated on the dash? If so, for how many miles?

 

They've been sitting on this investment for 4 months now. They should be eager to unload it.

Because the car has body damage that is obvious and they are pricing it too high.

I would not. They are likely to do a quicky fix it job to get the car out the door. If you are interested in the car and want it made right, get it to a separate body shop for an estimate and then negotiate that off the price. I wouldn't touch that car for $11,750 in that condition.

Edit - on further examination of the photos, the right rear damage is pretty widespread on mulitple panels and looks to be down to bare metal and a panel is dented. The RR wheel has curb rash, missing a valve stem (edit -cap), missing center cap (I think, I don't have a similar model to compare to). This car has not been lovingly maintained and the dealer is almost certainly just trying to flip it out the door.

 

First pic, its missing a filler panel on the front bumper where the fog light should be on models with fog lights. It should be black like in the eight pic.

Second pic, bottom from first, its missing the hubcap cover over the wheel. Those things are expensive from the dealer. You might be able to find a replacement off Craigslist for cheap.

Third, fourth, sixth and seventh pic, bottom from second, its got the damage to rear passenger door, and panel. In regards to the valve stem, it only looks like missing the cap, not the valve stem. If it is missing valve stem, it may or may not be expensive because TPMS is built into valve stem.

Fifth pic, right from first, there is noticeable gap between bumper and hatch. I don't think that gap should be that big. And difference in color is quite noticeable as well between that bumper and the rear driver quarter panel.

Eight pic, its got the paint damage to the passenger side bumper.

This damage along with its high mileage, I would recommend staying away. If all body damage was fixed before sale, $12.5k is still a hard sell.
