Hello every one i own a prius 2002 today the car is dead, i change the hybrid battery and the ecu and the car still totally without a positive reaction. One guy told me is too expensive repair it and he suggest me to delete hybrid system.
I want to know if is that possible by replacing the transaxle for a 5 speed gearbox????
    Thank's for your help..........

Even if you replaced it, you're going to need to change/add more stuff such as a starter motor, probably an alternator and some ECUs. Prius has no starter nor alternator.

What would you do about getting the shifter into the car vs. steering column mounted one you've got now?

It is going to be very expensive to repair if you keep changing out parts without knowing what the true problem is.

If you have the front half of a Corolla or Matrix, you might be able to make it work, but you would need transmission, engine, accessories, brake system, computers, etc. It would be A LOT of work.

Sounds waaaaayyyyyyy toooooo hard to me. It would be way cheaper and less hassle to simply buy a working Gen I and keep the '02 for parts. Between the two cars you could conceivably keep it running for a long time.
