Please provide concrete example of where you have seen or heard this.

I just opened one up the other day, straight from the dealer, and everything appeared new. Not refurbished.

the packs are new, and will last on average, the same as a new prius battery.

Toyota only offers a 1 year warranty on their replacement hybrid battery packs?? That seems strange when it's 10 years 150k miles (in California anyway) on factory installed batteries. Wonder why they give you a measly year on replacements. That's pretty crappy.

all replacement parts get a one year, 12,000 mile warranty. if you get a free battery when yours fails before 150,000 miles, it's not that crappy.

Why the heck do they give you a whopping 10 year, 150k on factory installed?? That's a HUGE difference and on such an expensive item!

carb requirements. non carb states get 8/100. and only then because car makers feel it's necessary to overcome irrational fear of battery failure.

A replacement battery module or cell is considered a replacement part, like the knuckles of the steering wheel or a front end part.
By the contrary, a replacement battery assembly, the full pack, will end up to the original battery life warranty on CARB or non CARB states if replaced by an authorized Toyota service center.

I just installed a new OEM HV battery in customer's car this afternoon. I'll have to go back and double check the warranty.

Spoke to my local dealer and they confirmed that the HV Battery carry a 12 months 12,000 mile warranty.

So should we tell Mark010101 that your dealer does not agree with his dealer?

For fun I started calling different dealers and asking about warranty on replacement HV battery. Responses were all over the place: 12 month 12,000 miles, 12 months unlimited miles, 8 years 80,000 miles, etc, etc and...there was even one that said 36 month, unlimited miles. Personally I liked the guys that said 8 years. Guess I should buy all my packs through them!

The thing that sucks about it is that it only adds to the confusion surrounding replacement batteries. Grrr!

As part of my calls this morning, I called corporate. They turned it back to the local dealer.
So I'm gonna start getting all my packs from the 8 year 80,000 mile warranty guys. :)
