Well, there ARE about four Prii that I have seen (including mine) in Cedar Falls. There's at least three dealerships (Waterloo, Iowa City, Ames) within a couple hours drive. So I was wondering if anyone else from IA had found PC? If you're close by feel free to post as well. Thanks!
No replies...it MUST be lonely on the plains. Head to the coasts to stalk the elusive Prii in their natural habitat. I think they need ocean water to proliferate. Here they are as abundant as prairie dogs are elsewhere. When I took Blue Belle to NM to meet the folks she was as rare as hen's teeth, and caused as much commotion as...Paris Hilton! People were amazed at what 'those Californians' will come up with. Blue Belle felt demure next to all those testosterone-driven mega-trucks parked along side her in the supermarket parking lot.
Ive seen some Prii hibernating up north here in Michigan, But they are hard to spot hidden amongst all the SUV gas Guzzlers. Your best bet is a road trip east or west as I too have heard they congregate on the coasts during thier summer mating season. Be Sure to keep your Prii on a tight leash in case it gets surrounded by other excited Prii trying to propergate.
I'm originally from Iowa, does that count? This past summer we drove "back home" to see all of our kinfolk in Osage (small farm town up north by Mason City, pop. 5000ish). We were shocked to see someone else in town had a Prius! Never got to meet them, didn't want to just bang on their front door. We had just about everyone in my wifes side of the family convinced to buy a Prius, they ALL test drove it! My wife comes from a BIG family, not to mention the extended family, that was a lot of test drives .
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tyrin @ Apr 11 2007, 07:36 PM) </div> We are in Oskaloosa, IA. We purchased a 2007 Prius package #2, silver pine mica 3 weeks ago. We are really enjoying the car and the economy. Went to Charles City and back last weekend, used 7 gal. of gas. (very nice)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(JOS @ Apr 12 2007, 12:25 PM) </div> It counts for me. We're transplants ourselves. I come from Ohio by way of Boston (isn't that the most direct route?) Glad to see you're spreading the word back here. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(IowaPrius @ Apr 12 2007, 06:12 PM) </div> Hi IowaP! I've got the same year and package, but in the metallic grey. Bought it almost the same time. My daily commute is CF to Independence, about 33 mi each direction, so I'm LOVING the economy. Saving approx. $10 per week on gas from my Cavalier. Hey, have you noticed a drop in your mpg with the serious winds the last week or so? Mine went down about 5 mpg...
Believe it or not...today I was on my way back from the local Home Depot, and there were THREE Prius' side-by-side (mine in the middle) waiting for the light to change. Wish I'd had my camera with me. Yes, there are lots of them here in San Diego. I used to wave, but seldom got a response, so I've given up on that.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(derk @ Apr 12 2007, 09:28 PM) </div> I think the only reason I've seen four in the town where I live is because it's a college town. Three were at the university, and one other at my church (Unitarian/Universalist). In the town I work in (pop 6000), there is one other Prius, owned by the county conservation board. They may be the only two Toyota's in town... B)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tyrin @ Apr 11 2007, 05:36 PM) </div> Well, I live nowhere near Cedar Falls now, but I lived there from 4th-12th grades. Do you know Valley Park school? I was there 4th-6th and was sad to see it's not a school anymore when I visited last summer. I went to the Lab School 7th-12th grades. As I recall, there were a lot of UAW workers in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area for the John Deere plants. The UAW has a thing against Japanese car companies.
There are many Prii in Wisconsin, just across the river from you. Bring your new baby to Hybridfest in Madison this July if you are lonely
Hi Tyrin, Bought my 2006 Red Package 4 last June from the Waterloo dealer. Love my Prius, the dealer, and PC. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tyrin @ Apr 11 2007, 07:36 PM) </div>
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tyrin @ Apr 11 2007, 07:36 PM) </div> Head North a bit - lakes/water and Prius are more common here (Rochester, Minn) - there were 3 prius in the local good food co-op parking lot last week at one time and I see 4-5 in the ramp downtown where I park. A nice drive is up along the river on the Wisc side and then back down on the Minn/Iowa side. Eagle time at Wabasha (home of "Grumpy old men") on the south end of Lake Pepin. Downside is you'll see lots of Vikings, Twins and Gopher fans.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Sunnyvale Prius @ Apr 12 2007, 10:14 PM) </div> Yeah, I try to stay near UNI and away from downtown Waterloo, where the Deere plant is . Seriously, though, I'm more worried about Independence where I teach, because there are like NO foreign cars there... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Grandma Judy @ Apr 13 2007, 08:54 AM) </div> Thanks for the invite, Judy. Unfortunately I'll be in San Francisco in July. I'll have to leave the baby here, but at least I'll be surrounded by the water-loving prii! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mcsj @ Apr 13 2007, 03:34 PM) </div> Hi mcsj! Glad to hear from another local. I actually went down to Iowa City to buy my car, because they accepted an offer quite lower than the Waterloo dealer. However, I'm glad to hear that you like the dealership, because I'll probably go there for all my checkups (don't have time to drive 1 1/2 hours each time). So, are you one of the Prii I see lurking around UNI?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tyrin @ Apr 13 2007, 06:16 PM) </div> I doubt that. actually that was my 2nd time driving around cedar falls/waterloo area in my 13 years of staying in iowa. By the way, if you want to meet more Prius friends, visit the Coral Ridge Mall parking lot in Coralville (the other end of I-380) during weekends, or the ACT or Pearson parking lot (both next to exit 246 on i-80) around 4-5pm on weekdays. I spotted at least 20 different Priuses in those parking lots. You are not alone.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mcsj @ Apr 20 2007, 05:09 PM) </div> Good tips. I was actually passed by a white Prius today on my way home on hwy 20. I forgot to check the license plate to see where she was from. Unfortunately she was talking on her cell phone, so no hybrid wave for her! <_<
