Just saw this reported over at Greencarcongress:

    http://www.greencarcongress.com/2006/02/mo...ds_to.html#more

" Hybrids from a number of different Chinese automakers—including the Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM), Chang’an Motor Corp, Chery Auto Company and the China FAW Group Corporation—will enter the Chinese market at the end of 2006 "

FAW has already introduced a hybrid version of its Hongqi (red banner) sedan with licensed Toyota mild hybrid technology (similar to the Toyota Crown in Japan) and DFM has established a partnership with Li Sun Power, for lithium-ion batteries to power its hybrids and full EVs. The Nissan bluebird based DFM hybrid has a top speed of 99 mph and consumes 19% less fuel than its conventional counterpart.

    Interesting.

China (and the rest of the world) will have to figure out ways to be very efficient with their energy resources or they will simply not have enough to support their growing economy (let alone live with the environmental impact).

It's good to see that their young car industry seem to understand this. It's probably harder to change a country like US to be more FE then a country that is just establishing car as an every man need.

It's an interesting time and it seems like some serious money is spent on development of hybrids and FE. This must be a good thing

    Good Article!

Can you imagine the reduction in Foreign Petrolium requirements here? This is what the media needs to realize and get on the bandwagon with. As stated before on this forum... There is no need to replace your existing vehicle with a hybrid, but if you're in the market, why not consider the best thing for our future! This along with hydraulic hybrids for local delivery trucks and we WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE in dependance on foreign oil.
