I bought a small little LED rechargable flashlight from Home Depot (about 1 1/2 inches long maybe). It shines a blue LED showing when charging. The problem was that it was way too bright! It was a pain!

So, I put it inside of the console box so not to be seen so much. This is now great! When I open the lid at night it glows blue inside and I can see at night. If I crack it open (pull lid back a bit) it lights up the cup holder!

Plus, if I need it, I pull it out for a bright white rechargable LED flashlight. This turned out super, and wanted to pass this along.:D

Yeah, this does sound interesting! We need a little better description of the Home Depot Flashlight, maybe a name and a part number or Hom eDepot number, just where did you mount this in the box?
    Thanks

I took a more difficult route for an OEM look. Mine has a hidden switch that brings on the lamp when the lid is opened. It was a major project though involving finding an "aways hot" lead behind the dash. The console lamp works whether the car is on or not.

I also lit up the main cup holder and low bridge console with green LEDs. A very handy mod.

I did that by mounting a low power blue LED under the bridge. Looks and works great.

Referring to me? If so, no I didn't write that up. Simply disassembled the bridge from above, drilled and mounted the LED (from radioshack) and tied it into the dimming trigger wire of the HU. I will post a pic.

Thanks to both. Question was to Spiderman, but I take info from all parties before deciding. My original thought was to add the same lamp assy used in the overhead for shifter illumination, and tie it into the same circuit. That way it is only on with headlights (night) and same equipment. Toyota lamp assy probably cost to much though, so cheaper LED likely best with similar intensity.
