Car goes to trade-in on Saturday. Calculated from my fill-up recording booklet. From new drove 37,116 km (car had a bit on it when I got it - they had to drive a ways to get it here). I put in 1939.3 litres over the June 2012 to now time, for an average of 5.22 l/100 km. Lots of short trips hurt. Didn't drive it much in winter though.

The FJ Cruiser, for comparison, was the winter car. Lots of short trips as well, in fact same driving pattern as the Prius. Drove it 29,560 km over the time I owned it on 5187.4 litres of fuel (had it longer than the Prius). That's 17.55 l/100 km! Gas guzzler! :)

You can see why I preferred to drive the Prius!

Both were fun vehicles. Will miss them. But the new one (QX50) is so shiny! ;)

If I'm still driving in 5-10 years I may be back. Till then, have fun guys and gals.

Was the trade in value fair in your opinion? Asking for a friend.

Canadian book value is from about $11,000 to about $13,000. That's a pretty big drop from what I paid new. The FJ, on the other hand, holds its' value very well. Book for it was about $14,000 to about $17,000, as I recall. I got $25,000 for both.
My two vehicles were considered about the best they could expect, for used. I didn't demand what I may have been able to get. Probably left $5000 extra in the dealers pocket.
