Toyota JP makes a key card fob for the Prius. I'm sure you could program the lexus one to work with the Toyota sensors though.
Bump- Has anyone tried to confirm if this works or not? Anyone buy the JDM wallet FOB for the Prius? I forgot where I was able to find it, its not on Sigma.
There are two main types of Lexus keyfobs, AAB and ACX. Prius Gen3 usually has ACX (but not always!). I suggest checking which type of keyfob is used on a Lexus that supports the card style. My Gen3 Prius keyfob has the designations "FCC ID:HYQ14ACX" and "DENSO 14ACX" molded into the case on the silver logo side. This particular keyfob is used with a Lexus CT200h, which uses the same circuit board (but different plastic case). There may be some literature about the card keyfob that shows the FCC ID. It just has to match what your keyfob has. For the true hacker, how about mounting the circuit board from an ordinary keyfob in a card style case. Most of the thickness is used by the buttons and mechanical key, which are not used with the card. Maybe even remove the switches from the circuit board and use a thinner battery.
I see a 14aeb and a 14abb. Doesn't look good. I suspect that these cards simply won't register with a 14acx system. If a card doesn't register, I'd worry that it had somehow be rendered "used". Registering a used keyfob requires a seed reset (all keys lost procedure, except power on). Another possibility would be to replace the keyfob ECU with one designed for the card type. Given that at least one Gen3 Prius has an 14aab keyfob, the ECUs may be interchangeable.
A while ago, I was very involved in getting addition fobs and I did consider the flat Lexus card type. My investigations concluded that at the time there were no Prius versions made. ( I hope to be proven wrong.) In the Prius 2011 manual I found this mentioned. On 2011 gen 3 - page 62 the following Certification for the Smart Key System USA sold cars are: FCC ID: NI4TMLF8-2 FCC ID: HYQ14ACX FCC ID: HYQ13CZD FCC ID: HYQ14ADF FCC ID: HYQ13CZE Guess what my FCC ID: HYQ14AAB is not on the list or the flat card type.(Mine is related to a Lexus type key fob. That's discussed in another thread.) WARNING: The fob you buy/find must match the FCC ID: number exactly to be able to program it and get it to work. ( I learned the hard way.) As mentioned I do like the idea of moving my spare fob guts to a flatter key type case. But who can sell me a case on it's own or anyone have a good idea for a different available case. my2cents.
Response from my Toyota guy. Obviously his word is not set in stone but hey he tried... Unfortunately, no. There isn’t any way that my techs no of that would make it programmable on a Prius. I got to admit that that is a pretty cool fob though! Ryan Www.trdtoyotaparts.com 800-997-9092
It would be useful to see what's inside one of those card keyfobs. The circuit board inside ordinary keyfobs is actually quite thin, and could be made thinner by changing the battery mount and removing the switches. I'm guessing that it might be possible to install the circuit board from an ordinary keyfob into the cardkey style case. Somebody needs to open up a card style keyfob ... Even a defective one would answer the question of circuit board compatibility.
Anybody know if it possible to install the correct Lexus trans ponder into the Prius that works with the card fob?
