They are for... looks. They are not LEDs, but are just dimples in the plastic.

Yeah, it's pretty odd actually. That was one of the changes Toyota made for the 2006 Model Year. The '04 and '05 Prii don't have that row of dimples. Of all the things to change, that's a silly detail to add, IMHO.

Would've been nice if those were the parking lights hehe.

You're just jealous. I think my dimples add to the sophistication of the vehicle. Also increases the gas mileage by about 11.4%

Those Toyota engineers think of EVERYTHING!

Darell, I bet that if the Prius were dimpled like a golf ball, that would greatly reduce drag and improve mileage. Why don't you give it a go and let me know how it works out. I can lend you a hammer. :D

Darell and I briefly discussed the idea of adding LEDs in the dimples. Must've been six months ago...

There wouldn't be much light output, and routing wires in there would be tough.

They actually did that to the Sparrows, ya know (three-wheel EV). The front fenders looked like they were attcked by golf balls.

    I've got a hammer. I think I just need a better target.
